YREKA – The Hidden Valley Lady Mustangs may have come into their game against Yreka on Tuesday feeling a little frisky, after finishing second in last weekend’s Yreka tournament—including a 5-0 win over the Lady Miners. By the time it was over, the Mustangs were roped and corralled.
Kayla Graves got the start on the hill for the Lady Miners and struck out two of the first three batters she faced, as the Lady Mustangs went
The Mustangs first batter doubled in the top of the second, and scored on a single that went past the outfield, to tie the game 1-1. The outfield error led to the batter advancing to third base. ETNA – The Etna Lady Lions hosted the Chiloquin Queens on Monday, and lost by a deuce, 6-4, in a game of missed opportunities and errors.
Chiloquin put a run on the board in the first inning, but the Lady Lions quickly answered back. Ashley Parry reached on an error, stole second, and advanced to third on a ground out by Nicole Luiz. Tracy Thackeray singled to bring Parry home and tie the score at 1-1. Chloe Papazian and Elli Pynes both walked and Etna had the bases jammed. The next two batters, however, fanned and the threat of a huge inning was repelled.

YREKA – The Mt. Shasta Lady Bears didn’t win a single game in the Yreka Tournament last week, but that didn’t stop them showing the heart that will likely win them several games over the course of the season.
“Yeah, it was a tough week. I guess that is to be expected with a young team and almost no dirt time, besides games. No excuses though, as this promises to be one intense week of practice,” said Coach Greg Eastman.
The Lady Bears opened up the tournament against the eventual champion and a much larger school,
Their second round game against the Corning Cardinals proved to be quite a bit more competitive.
The Lady Bears broke the ice in the top of the fifth with two runs, but the Cardinals answered with three in the bottom half, making it 8-2. Neither team scored in the sixth inning, but the Bears came back to life in the top of the seventh inning, putting up three runs to make the final 8-5.

YREKA – After taking third place in the Cub Classic the prior weekend, the Etna Lady Lions were looking for more than a consolation prize at the Yreka tournament, last Friday and Saturday. Etna, however, wound up with a tough first round game against the host Yreka Lady Miners, followed by a game with Shasta Cascade League power house
Etna wasted no time in showing their offensive power in the top of the first inning. After the Lady Lions’ lead off batter struck out, Nicole Luiz singled. Number-three hitter Tracy Thackeray then picked up a three-bagger to drive in Luiz. Thackeray scored on a Chloe Papazian ground out to make it 2-0. Elli Pynes smashed the Lions second triple of the inning, and scored on a Paige Finely single, giving Etna a 3-0 lead. Although

YREKA – The Yreka Lady Miners finished fourth in their own tournament, this weekend, beating Etna and
Yreka won their first round match up with the Etna Lady Lions 7-3. Etna scored a run in the first inning, when Ashley Parry doubled and then scored on an error. The Lady Lions had the bases loaded when Elli Pynes popped out to shallow right field. Nicole Luiz tagged and went home. The throw beat her to the plate, but Luiz slid under the tag and between the legs of the catcher for what was an apparent run. The home plate umpire saw otherwise and called her out. The double play and a subsequent fly out quashed the Lions’ threat of a big first inning.
Etna’s Paige Finley struck out the first two Yreka batters and the Lady Miners went down in order in the bottom of the first inning, with the Lions leading 1-0.
Etna failed to score in the top of the second, but Yreka was able to even the game in their half of the inning. Ashlie Smith led off with a single. Smith stole second, stole third, and scored on a throwing error to third base. The next three batters flied out, and the game was tied 1-1. (more…)

YREKA – The Etna Lions baseball team came into the Gold Nugget baseball tournament with a record of 7-3. All three of their losses were to upper division foe the Central Valley Falcons. So, when the Lions saw the bracket for the tournament, they couldn’t have been thrilled with their first round match up. It was the Falcons.
This time, however, it was the Lions that came out on top 6-5, and advanced to round two in the winners’ bracket. For the Lions, Beau Branson went 2/3, with a double, a run, and two RBI. Trevor Kendrick had two RBI, a run, a double, and was 2/4 at the plate. Greg Monday was 1/2 with a home run. Jordan Pehle-Munson went 1/4, with a double and an RBI.
In round-two, Etna faced Del Norte, which had defeated Yreka in round-one 4-1. Monday led off the game for the Lions with a blast over the left-center field fence. Logan Dysert followed with a single. Clint Johnson laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Dysert moved to second, and then went to third base on a wild pitch. J. Munson reached on an error, and Dysert scored to give Etna a 2-0 lead. (more…)
