bevorenda2.jpgYREKA—The Siskiyou Golden Fair will be hosting a Youth Talent Show on Saturday, August 9 at 1:00 pm on the PremierWest Bank Mall Stage for all youngsters who like to sing, dance and play musical instruments.
“This is a fun opportunity for the youth of our county to show us their stuff!” said fair CEO Rebecca Desmond.
The Youth Talent Show includes two age categories: Pee Wee (ages 4-7) and Junior (ages 8-12). Contestants can compete either as individuals or in groups. First, second and third place ribbons will be awarded in each of the two age categories. (more…)

heat-u12-alicia-mandt.jpgYREKA – The Eagle Point Eagles cooled off the Siskiyou Heat U-12 ASA softball team on Thursday, taking down the home team 10-1.

The Eagles led 2-0 after one inning, 3-0 after two innings, and 5-0 at the end of four. Eagle Point sealed the deal in the top of the fifth inning by scoring five runs, giving them a 10-0 lead.

The Heat went into the bottom half of the fifth looking to at least avoid a shutout. Courtney Huston led off with a walk. Huston advanced to second and then to third base on passed balls. Chantell Frazier walked, and moved to second base on a steal. With one out, Jena Turner singled to drive in Huston, making the score 10-1. The game ended via the 8-run mercy rule after five innings.

Turner went 2-3, with an RBI. Lacie Landrum was 1-2, with a walk and two steals.

mittan-ad-2.jpgThe Heat will be in action again on Friday at 6:00 pm against Ashland to kick off their four-team round robin tournament, which continues on Saturday, starting at 10:00 am at the Shasta View fields.

 

 

The District -1 rodeo team earned top team honors at the 2008 California High School Rodeo Association’s state finals held in Bishop, CA June 15-21. Several Siskiyou County residents contributed to the team’s success.
Daniel Ferreira of Fort Jones was the Reserve All-Around Cowboy. Ferreira was first in Tie Down Roping, third in Team Roping (Heeler), and seventh in Steer Wrestling.
Larry Ferreira (Fort Jones) was third in Team Roping (Header) and fourth in Steer Wresting. Dean Autry (Fort Jones) took third in Boy’s Cutting, and fifth in Saddle Bronc.

The top four finisher’s in each event move on to the National High School Rodeo Finals in Farmington, NM, which takes place July 19-26. Fifth – tenth place finishers qualify for the 23rd annual Silver State International Rodeo in Fallon NV, June 30 - July 5.

girdner-ad-2.jpgWEED – The College of the Siskiyous is offering a Computer Camp for middle and high school students the week of August 4-8 from 8:00 am to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The total cost for the camp is $59, and will include all materials.
All participants will design and create T-shirts, create buttons to put on T-shirts, create their own computer game, take videos with a digital video camera, make their own video DVDs, and use search engines and download music to make their own CDs. (more…)

northerncapaving-225.jpgYREKA–The Siskiyou Golden Fair is will present the second annual Junior Exhibitor Showcase Program. The program is open to all Siskiyou County residents between the ages of five and nineteen. To qualify, participants need to enter exhibits in at least three different divisions. Exhibitors will earn points for each project entered, and can earn more points if they receive ribbons for their hard work. (more…)

YREKA—The Siskiyou Golden Fair is offering pre-sale discounted fair admission tickets and carnival wristbands.

“A packet of five fair admission tickets is available for $20, which is a 30-percent savings over purchasing admission at the fair,” said fair CEO Rebecca Desmond. “Not only is this a great savings, it also offers convenience for those folks who don’t want to wait in line to buy admission tickets during the fair.”

Pre-sale admission tickets are available at the fair office in Yreka or on the fair’s website at www.sisqfair.com

coffe-break-revised.jpgPre-sale carnival wristband coupons are also available now. Wristband coupons are $15 now through August 5 and can be exchanged at the carnival during the fair for a wristband for unlimited rides all day and night on any one day of the fair. During the fair, the wristband will be $25 and sold only until 8:00 pm.

There is no limit on the number of pre-sale wristbands one person can purchase. The fair will sell as many as there is demand for through Tuesday night, August 5. There are no discounts on individual carnival tickets prior to the fair. (more…)
