WEED – The College of the Siskiyous Eagles hosted the Butte Valley Roadrunners in their home opener on Wednesday, and came up just a little short in their comeback bid. The Eagles battled back from a 5-1 deficit to tie the game 5-5 in the sixth inning. Nick Reynolds reached on a throwing error to lead off the inning, advancing to second on the bad throw. After Chris Houle grounded out to third base, Reynolds moved to third base on an errant pick off attempt. The next batter, Ryan Trosko walked, putting runners on first and third. (more…)

FORT JONES – It was an early season Shasta Cascade League showdown that featured two of the league’s premier pitchers, and two of the teams favored to win the league title. A sweep by either team would have given it the inside track. Instead, the Etna Lady Lions and the Mt. Shasta Lady Bears split their double-header, with

Where do you start writing about Etna Lady Lion Paige Finley? How about basketball?
Finley led the Etna Lady Lions varsity basketball team in scoring, assists, and steals on their way to a Shasta Cascade League title. Finley also picked up SCL Most Valuable Player honors.
Finley had little time to rest before jumping into softball…like about a day. The day after basketball playoffs ended, Finley and her teammates headed to the Gridley softball tourney. The result was a Lady Lion 10-0 win over Pierce in game-one.
Finley pitched six innings and gave up three hits, three walks and fanned eight. At the plate she went 1/2, scored two runs, had a double, and took a pair of walks. She also pitched the second game of the day, winning 12-2 over Esparto. Finley had eight strikeouts, and allowed two earned runs and two hits. The Lady Lions and Finley went 3-1 at the tourney.
Last weekend, the Lady Lions won the
Take all that in to account, and it’s easy to see why I consider Paige Finley an Impact Player.

YREKA–More than 1,500 people made their way to the Siskiyou Golden Fairgrounds last Saturday for the 2009 PremierWest Bank Siskiyou Sportsmen’s Expo.
“It was our best expo yet,” said fair CEO Rebecca Desmond. “The weather cooperated and the families had a blast!”
Youngsters were challenged early on by the trout this year at the California Department of Fish & Game pond but the bite rate picked up it the afternoon. Other young people were busy climbing the US Army rock wall and still others were taking a hand at archery with the Siskiyou Bowmen. Parents and other adults were busy talking with vendors who filled two exhibit buildings and acres of space outside. (more…)
