cos-hof-77-football.jpgWEED – College of the Siskiyous will celebrate its long history of athletic excellence with the annual COS Athletic Hall of Fame inductions, to be held Saturday evening, May 9, at the Yreka Community Center and Theater, in Yreka. The public is invited to attend this gala dinner and fun-filled evening to celebrate the COS athletes and coaching staff. The evening will also feature a catered buffet dinner. Tickets to attend the event are $25 per person and should be purchased by May 1. Tickets will not be available for sale at the door.

yac-300-b.jpgThis year COS inductees will include: Cory Branker – Football, Roland Holcomb – Basketball, CeCe (Caddell) Carter – Ski, Bryant Long – Football, Don Harmon – Community Service, Joel Kubli – Football, Mike DeRoss – Baseball, and the 1968 Men’s Basketball Team coached by retired COS Instructor Sid Smith.

Also included as part of the evening activities, is recognition of the outstanding Siskiyou County High School Athlete of the Year.  Two male and two female athletes from each Siskiyou County High School will be recognized and two will be chosen as a male and female Siskiyou County Athlete of the Year. mittan-ad-300.jpgYREKA – The Siskiyou County Mutton Busting Championship will be held at the Siskiyou Golden Fair on Saturday, August 15 during the fair rodeo. This first-ever event is sponsored by the 10th DAA Friends of the Fair.

“We are very excited to have this contest during the fair,” said fair CEO Rebecca Desmond. “It will be just like the Siskiyou County Saddle Cow Championship where we take winners from the county’s annual rodeos and they compete at the fair for the championship.” (more…)

freinds-of-the-fair.JPGYREKA – Do you have a lot of stuff you want to sell at a yard sale but live too far out to attract many customers? Then the DAA Friends of the Fair Community Yard Sale is for you!

The Friends of the Fair will be holding the yard sale on Saturday, May 2, and a 20’x20’ space is only $20 and a 20′x40′ is $40. The event is a fundraiser for Friends of the Fair and will be held at the Siskiyou Golden Fairgrounds in Yreka. The sale will run from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm, vendors will be allowed in at 6:30 am to set up.

YREKA – The Yreka Miners took on Anderson and Corning on Wednesday in a Northern Athletic League track and field meet at Miner Stadium. Lady Miner Kelsey Robberson won the pole vault with a height of 10’, the best in the North Section so far this season.

soward-edit-b.jpgWEED – College of the Siskiyous Instructor Jim Gilmore is pleased to announce the annual spring student photography show, (In)Dependent Images, will open at the COS Art Gallery April 20. The student exhibition, which features both film and digital photography work by the Intermediate Photography class, will run through May 12.

Students enrolled in Gilmore’s ART11B Photography class have been encouraged to hone their personal visions of what photography means to them. The photographs selected for the exhibition range from landscape to portraiture, color to black & white, and film to digital images.  The students themselves edited sis-dist-ad-300.jpgthe work for the exhibition, and the resulting images in the Gallery reveal the wide range of interests of the students.

Participating Intermediate photography students include: Kandie Adams, Cory Barrow, Terri Carlisle, Christy Cummings-Dawson, Stacey Davasher, Krista Dower, Kristin Miebach, Alix Norman, Malia Plevney-Gamba, Kelly Samuelson, and Shavaughn Soward

The line up includes “new and gently used musicians,” with some high school students making their solo stage debut. Tickets are $5.00 per person, or $20.00 for a family ticket.
