Graduation: the passing into adulthood, the gateway to life, the stepping stone for greater things, a commencement ceremony. By whatever name you prefer, Butte Valley High School’s graduation took place on Friday June 12, 2009 in the school gymnasium.
The class of 2009 consisted of 33 students. The class always showed a lot of spirit, got along well, and stuck together through the good times and the bad. Most of class has been together since Montessori. Yet, they never had any trouble letting new people into the group.
There were many scholarships awarded to the graduates. Some of the groups that gave out scholarships
include: The Butte Valley Staff Sponsored by Coca- Cola, Butte Valley Senior Citizens, Butte Valley Chamber of Commerce, Dorris Lions Club, California Story Slam, CSF (California Scholarship Federation) Missy Tonelli Scholarship, Gloria Garza Memorial Scholarship, Joyce Ross Memorial Scholarship, Tulelake Butte Valley Fair Board, Tulelake Rotary Club, Siskiyou County 4H Leaders Council, Siskiyou County Cattlewomen, Shasta Blood Center Scholarship, Future Farmers of America Scholarship, Cash for College, Cal-Grant Awards, University Awards, and the Ford Family Foundation. The seniors who received these scholarships were very thankful for the groups that chose to award them. (more…)

Tylor Cilione is a senior this year at Butte Valley High School. She has lived in Butte Valley all her life, and has made wonderful contributions to her class. She was student body vice president, and helped make many great things happen for the school, such as prom.
Tylor put on a summer camp for anyone who wanted to practice basketball. The first week she set it up for elementary school students to come and learn the correct way to play basketball, and have fun doing it. Then, she worked with the middle school and high school students. This one she made tougher and gave them more of a challenge since most of them had already played basketball.
Tylor then contacted Sacramento University and arranged for her high school basketball team to go to Sacramento for a training camp that they were having there for high school students. She had no help from the school, or even her coach, when contacting the head coach at Sacramento University. Tylor would not give up until she knew for certain that they were able to go to the camp.
Tylor has been very active in sports all through her high school career. She played volleyball and basketball her freshman and sophomore years. Then in her junior year, her basketball season was cut short by a blown out knee. Tylor finished out her high school career with basketball and softball in her senior year.
During her last basketball season she fulfilled her dream of making it to the section championship game and coming within one point of winning in double overtime. (more…)

Butte Valley

Promenade or “prom” is known as many things: the night to remember, the night every little girl dreams about, and the most important dance of the year. This year’s prom took place at the Butte Valley High School gymnasium, on Saturday May 30. The students put a lot of hard work into it, and it turned out really well. It was easy to forget that you were even in the gym. The theme was Deep Blue Destiny, and the students went all out in decorating the gym.
You started out by walking into an “underwater” cave and then into an “underwater” tunnel. You then walked into the main dance floor which looked spectacular. The students who decorated did an amazing job.
The decorators started on Tuesday, May 28 and had it finished except for a few minor details, such as balloons, by the time that they left on Friday. They even managed to continue working on Friday after the power went out.
For anyone who did not want to go to Klamath Falls for prom dinner, the Hospitality Dinner House and Pub had a special dinner menu just for those who were going to prom. The menu consisted of sirloin steak, shrimp fettuccini alfredo, chicken fettuccini alfredo, and chicken in a honey orange sauce. All the food was delicious. The owners of the restaurant even came out, talked to the students, and took pictures. (more…)
