Yreka JV 2 – Etna JV 0

nsa-in-story.jpgETNA – For several years Yreka dominated Etna on the volleyball court. Then, three years ago, Etna began to dominate. The 2009 version of the rivalry, played Tuesday night, was a toe-to-toe battle that went the full five games before Etna emerged victorious, 3-2.

Etna won games one and two. The Lady Miners rebounded to win games three and four. Etna managed to win game five for the match. (more…)

Mighty Mites

norcal.jpgIt was another exciting Saturday for the Yreka Chargers Mighty Mites. They were well prepared to battle the Anderson team. This week the Yreka Charger Mighty Mites showed how much they have developed into a cohesive team, as every Mighty Mite gave it their all, both offensively and defensively.

Quarterback Skylar Conrad had the most impressive play of the game. Breaking at least three tackles, Conrad managed to reach the end zone while dragging two Anderson Mighty Mites with him for the touchdown. That touchdown was by far the hardest earned touchdown of the season. If you haven’t made it to a Yreka Chargers Mighty Mite game this season, there are still two home games left! Come check us out! Mighty Mites play at 8:45 am (more…)

y-ad-1-click.jpgYREKA – The Yreka Miner frosh football squad just wanted to play some football—against anyone. So, for homecoming last Friday, night they wound up going head-to-head with a more experienced Tulelake Honker junior varsity team. The end result was a 14-8 win for the Honkers, and a strong second half of the game for the young Miners.

Yreka went three-and-out on its first possession. Honker Danny Banderas went 59 yards for a touchdown on Tulelakes’ first possession. Jose Jaime added the PAT, giving the Honkers a 7-0 lead with 6:46 left in the first quarter.

Tulelake added to its lead as time expired in the half via a 4-yard TD pass from Adam Kandra to Avery Fensler. With the PAT, it was Honkers 14 – Miners 0 at intermission. (more…)

nsa-in-story.jpgYREKA – The Yreka Miner junior varsity football team capitalized on a North Valley turnover in the first quarter, and never looked back on the way to a 36-21 homecoming victory.

The North Valley Knights drove into Miner territory on their first possession, but put the ball on the ground. Travis Sutter recovered it for Yreka, and the Miners were in business.

Yreka drove 70 yards to pay dirt, with Jaret Callender smashing through the Knight defense from a yard out for the touchdown. Trevor Daugherty added the PAT, giving Yreka a 7-0 lead with 1:20 left in the first quarter. (more…)

biondi-300.jpgMt. Shasta’s 2009 football homecoming was a festive affair all week for the student body, but it was the visiting Live Oak Lions who did the celebrating on the field Friday night. The Lions (4-1) took the Sacramento Valley League opener handily, 34-13, taking advantage of a half-dozen Bear fumbles along the way.

Live Oak got off to a fast start when leading scorer Tony Montes took the opening kickoff back 87-yards for a touchdown just 13 seconds into the game. The Lions would eventually lead 21-0 at the half, but the Bears were lucky it wasn’t 21-0 in this first 10 minutes.

On Mt. Shasta’s first possession, they drove across midfield, only to fumble the ball away at the Lions’ 47. But the Bear defense stiffened and denied Live Oak a chance to capitalize. (more…)
