YREKA – The sophomores didn’t even need an offense to take out the frosh in Wednesday’s Powder Puff football game. Their defense scored enough to do the job.
Just over midway through the first quarter, sophomore Katie Martinez picked of a pass and was off to the races for a 95-yard touchdown, giving the sophomores the lead 7-0. Martinez would also swipe another pass later in the game.
On the first play of the frosh’s next drive, Whitney Schack intercepted a pass and returned it 55 yards for a TD, upping the sophomore lead to 14-0, with 1:40 left in the first quarter. (more…)

Mighty Mites
The Yreka Chargers Mighty Mites knew this last weekend’s game against Orland would be a big challenge, and a challenge it was. While there were no extraordinary plays to mention, the Yreka Charger Mighty Mites held their own against their fierce competitors.
Makayla ten Berge had a few good tackles and gained her team positive yardage when running the ball. Offensively, the Yreka Charger Mighty Mites struggled from one quarter to the next. Defensively, the Yreka Charger Mighty Mites put everything they had on the field giving the Orland team something to fight for. The Charger defensive line of Skylar Conrad, Wesley Ward, Randall Hughes, Jai Case, Jake Peterson, Travis Hedin, Antonio Fernandez, Brayden Mauch and Travis Arwood were in full force. (more…)

Dunsmuir

PRINCETON – The Dunsmuir Tigers made the long drive to Princeton to take on the Eagles in what Tiger Coach Steve Van Ert referred to as “sweltering heat.” The drive home likely seemed quite a bit shorter and cooler, as the Tigers torched the Eagles to move to 3-0 on the season.
The Eagles mounted a clock-eating touchdown march on their opening drive for a brief 6-0 lead. After that, it was all Tigers. (more…)

Siskiyou Knights
By Craig Kay
The Siskiyou Knights traveled to Willows on Saturday to take on the Coyotes. The first two games were in the morning where fans were treated to football played by six through nine year olds. The Mighty Mite and Junior Pee Wee levels are truly instructional but very exciting to watch as these Knights continue to learn the game.
Things began to heat up in the afternoon—both the football and temperature. The Pee Wee game was a hard fought defensive battle. Both sides held each other scoreless throughout most of the game and you knew it was going to come down to the end. The Knights fell short 6-0 when Willows scored the only points of the game with 1:10 left to play. (more…)

WEED – The Weed Cougars won their 11-man football game against the Tulelake Honkers without even playing. The Honkers were unable to field a viable 11-man team due to multiple players suffering from illness. The result was a forfeit win for the Weed Cougars. However, the squads did crack helmets in a 9-man game. Weed won the on-field contest 21-6. The 9-man game was unofficial, but you wouldn’t have known it by the play on the field. (more…)
