norcal.jpgTime spent at the Butte Valley – Tulelake fair is a time of fun and chaos. It is fun when people are not worrying about animals, or an art contest, but chaotic when they are worrying about that and not getting sick on the rides.

On Wednesday, people started setting up for the fair, while across the street Tulelake was conquering Butte Valley, 7-1, in a soccer match. The rivalry between Butte Valley and Tulelake is mainly on the athletic side, and Tulelake showed Butte Valley that they had the upper hand on the soccer field this time around. (more…)

reed-with-truffle.jpgMONTAGUE – The Siskiyou Heat ASA softball teams held their annual fundraising dinner and auction at the Montague Community center last Saturday. Approximately 300 people attended and nearly $8,000 was raised. The money is used to pay for equipment, travel, tournament fees, and other expenses for the various Heat teams.

After attendees enjoyed a tri tip dinner prepared by Joe Spini, there was a lively dessert auction and an auction for services and merchandise. A Berry Truffle made by Sandy Luetke fetched $140 during the dessert auction, and was purchased by Troy Graves. The two auctions accounted for about $4000 of the funds raised.

sis-dist-ad-300.jpgThe Siskiyou Heat players and organizers expressed their gratitude to the community and their sponsors.

“Special thanks to Mt Shasta Resort, Timber Products, Pepsi Cola of Mt Shasta, Price Less Foods, The Tackle Shop and Brian and Heather Wagy for their generous donations. Also, a big appreciation to the community for their generous support of the Siskiyou Heat,” said Donna Cruz.

Mighty Mites

yac-300-b.jpgThe Yreka Charger Mighty Mites had another great game; full of excitement both offensively and defensively. Offensively Antonio Fernandez had a great game doing his job to block and protect the ball. Travis Hedin and Titus Christy both had some good tackles, while Jai Case provided his team with a few assisted tackles. The highlight of the game was when running back Jake Peterson, lost one of his shoes. Peterson had his shoe tackled off but never slowed down while he proceeded to run for a 20 yard-plus touchdown with one cleat and his white sock. (more…)

biondi-300.jpgYREKA – After the first two games, it looked like the Yreka Lady Miners were going to cruise to an easy match win over the Mt. Shasta Lady Bears. When it was all said and done, however, it was the Lady Bears that emerged victorious with a 3-2 win on Tuesday night (15-25, 18-25, 25-11, 25-23, 15-13).

Yreka dominated the latter half of the first game of the match. With the score Yreka 11 – Mt. Shasta 10, Mackenzie Allen ripped a kill to give Yreka a side out and start a 14-5 run, paving the way to the 25-15 win. Yreka also had an easy win in the second game, 25-18. (more…)

ETNA – It was bound to show up; it was just a matter of time. After being absent the first two games of the season, the Etna Lion passing game showed up Friday night and despite the 21-45 loss to the Lost River Raiders it is evident that there is lots of potential.

Is this a new rendition of Air Etna?

Senior quarterback Clint Eastlick passed for 391 yards and three scores as Etna fell in what was a back and forth battle in the early stages at Duncan Field.

Eastlick was spreading the wealth, as his “Stimulus” hit five different receivers including Ryan Hicks. Eastlick and Hicks connected eight times for 289 yards and two touchdowns. The often elusive Hicks took advantage of single coverage most of the night and scored on receptions of 81 and 85 yards.

svpt-small.jpgLost River opened the game with a kickoff return for a touchdown, taking a 6-0 advantage with 11:48 left to play in the first quarter.

Etna answered right away when Eastlick hit Hicks for an 85-yard score. The two hooked up again for the two-point conversion to make it 8-6 Lions.

The Raider running game was pure power up the gut and they soon regained the lead before Eastlick connected with Jarom Hiett from 25 yards out to give Etna its last lead of the game, 15-14. (more…)

Nate Gonzales raced 28 yards for the game-winning touchdown with 4:32 left to play, breaking a 48-48 tie. LT Hisey picked off a Lumberjack pass with 1:13 to go and returned it 45 yards to the Westwood 34-yard-line. Mighty Mites

nsa-in-story.jpgThe Charger Mighty Mites showed just how mighty they really are this weekend against the Foothill Jr. Cougars. At the beginning of the first quarter, the Jr. Cougars had the ball and for a moment it looked as if they were off to a good start. But the Yreka Chargers defense stepped it up and held the Cougars at the goal line, never letting them break through. Jake Peterson, Skylar Conrad, Travis Arwood, Travis Hedin, Titus Christy, Davon Ruiz, Wesley Ward, Randall Hughes and Devon Applewhite all made great defensive plays throughout the Mighty Mite game.
