The Yreka Miner boys tennis team turned in their sixth dominating performance in Northern Athletic League play, blanking the Central Valley Falcons 9-0 on Thursday afternoon in Shasta Lake City.

To say that the Yreka Miner throwers had a great day at West Valley on Wednesday would be somewhat of an understatement. The boys went 1-2-3 in both the shot and the discus.
Tyler Wolf led the way in the shot, with a throw of 49-04.00, the best in the North Section to date. Ryan Kennedy was second and Oscar Villegas placed third.
In the Discus, it was Kennedy on top with a throw of 124-08. Wolf was second, and Ben Rangel finished third for the Miners.
Lady Miner Carrie Scott also did well in the throwing events, with a first in discus (99-03), and a third in the Shot Put.
Yreka’s Sarome Eng took firsts in the 100m (11.24), Long Jump (19-00.00) and Triple Jump (39-00.25). (more…)
YREKA – The Yreka Miners improved to 7-2 overall, with a 6-5 win over the Shasta Wolves on Wednesday afternoon. Yreka Coach Jason Freitas threw down a pair of aces to get the job done. Christian Charles went the first four innings to notch the win, and Wade Berryhill pitched the final three frames for the save.
Shasta put up two runs in the top of the first inning, but that would be its only lead of the game.
Yreka’s Trevor Daugherty reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the first, and then stole second base. Cody Hoff plated Daugherty with a single. Hoff scored on a hit by Christian Charles. Charles found his way home when Ryan Todd singled, giving Yreka a 3-2 advantage.
Shasta tied it, 3-3, in the top of the third inning, when Cameron Cole doubled, went to third on a ground out, and scored on a wild pitch.
The Miners regained the lead in the bottom half of the frame. With one down, Josh Lee took a stroll to first base. Alex Luckey came in as a pinch runner for the Yreka catcher, and advanced to second on a passed ball. A single by Russel Sweet brought Luckey home. John Durney and Aaron Blazier were issued free passes to load the bases. A walk to Daugherty pushed Sweet across the plate, making it 5-3 after three. (more…)
ETNA – The rain and snow finally stopped, and the sun was out strong for the first day in forever. Game on!
The Etna Lady Lions and the Yreka Lady Miners squared off in a double-header on Wednesday afternoon, with the squads splitting. Yreka won the first game, 7-6, but Etna rebounded in a big way, with a 10-2 victory in the second game.
With game-one tied, 2-2, Yreka capitalized on :Lady Lion errors to score five runs in the top of the sixth inning, taking the lead 7-2. With the bases jammed, Emilie Wagy delivered the big hit for three RBI. A hit by Lacie Landrum plated Wagy.
Etna rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning scoring four runs on RBI hits by Katie and Jessie Eiler, and Tandy Thackeray. However, the tying run, Thackeray, was out at the plate on a throw from Center fielder Baylee Harris, relayed by Landrum to Yreka Catcher Emilie Wagy. (more…)

Do you have a lot of stuff you want to sell at a yard sale but live too far out to attract many customers? Then the 10th DAA Friends of the Fair Community Yard Sale is for you!
The Friends of the Fair will be holding the yard sale on Saturday, May 7. A 20’x20’ space is only $20 and a 20’x40’ is $40. The event is a fundraiser for Friends of the Fair and will be held at the Siskiyou Golden Fairgrounds in Yreka. The sale will run from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm, vendors will be allowed in at 6:30 am to set up. (more…)

The College of the Siskiyous Nursing Department announces registration is open for “In Home Caregiver Training” (NURS 67 / #3184) which will begin Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at the Yreka Campus Rural Health Sciences Institute, room 1-124. The class will meet weekly on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, until May 11.
This one-unit class is designed to provide the non-professional caregiver with basic care-giving skills, introduction to the aging process and enhanced awareness of community resources available to both patient and caregiver to meet the challenges of providing safe and effective care. (more…)
The Yreka Little League’s opening day is scheduled for Saturday, April 2 at Ringe Park, in Yreka. In addition to the traditional Hit-A-Thon fundraiser of seasons past, the major and minor teams will be scrimmaging all day beginning with the A’s vs Padres at 9:30 am, after opening ceremonies at 9:00 am. The scrimmages will be 30 minutes long and every minor & major team will have the opportunity to play in two of them.
The snack shack will be serving a lasagna special. There will also be shirts for sale with the Yreka Little League slogan for 2011, “Baseball with Attitude,” which are said to be “very cute” and have a picture of a ball eating a bat. YREKA – Over 60 vendors and record attendance numbers made the 2011 PremierWest Bank Sportsmen’s Expo one to remember. Two thousand people, an increase of 500 from 2010, came out to enjoy the fun-filled day for the family.
“The weather did not stop the crowd from coming out and enjoying the 6th Annual PremierWest Expo” said fair CEO Cliff Munson. “It was great to see families having so much fun.” (more…)
