If you are a student who is pursuing any COS certificate, AA degree, or transfer requirements, and are new to COS, you will want to participate in the Siskiyous Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) activity. Umpire Dale Anzo has a new question for SiskiyouYouth.com readers. This play actually happened in a college baseball game in Oregon.
The Play:
It does not matter how many outs.
There’s a runner at 1st.
Batter hits a shot to left field.
Runner from 1st rounds 3rd trying to score. As he rounds 3rd he is obstructed by the 3rd baseman and falls down. The runner now gets in a run down between home and 3rd. (more…)
The Oregon Tech Lady Owls softball team won the 2011 NAIA National Championship on Wednesday, defeating California Baptist, 1-0. Leading the way was former College of the Siskiyous pitcher Jackie Imhof.
Imhof had an incredible run in the tournament, tossing the first perfect game in five years at the championships, a 3-0 win over Midland Lutheran in pool play. According to the Oregon Tech website, she threw 47.1 innings in the tourney with an 0.59 ERA, and a 6-1 record. For her efforts, Imhof earned Most Valuable Player. She was 25-6 on the season with five saves, and a 1.42 ERA.
SiskiyouYouth.com interviewed Imhof via text on her way back from the championships on Wednesday night. The wireless conversation is below, slightly edited to take some of the “textiness” out of it.

Let’s go back to the perfect game. Were you aware late in the game that perfection was a possibility? If so, what were you thinking? How did it feel when you realized that you and the team would not only advance, but had accomplished perfection?
Imhof
My catcher and I knew we had a perfect game going. She has been my catcher for five years, since we were little girls. She and I had never had one before and we knew there was no more perfect place and time for our first perfect game. In the 5th inning, we focused on perfection with location and once we executed that, the perfect game came as a result. (The catcher is Kayde Schaefer and she and Imhof played together on the Silver Bullets aka “Baby Bullets” ASA team in Oregon. Schaefer was also named to the All-Tourney team).

So, you were pretty awesome at COS. What did you learn there that helped you in your career at OIT and in the championships?
Imhof
Coach (Doug) Eastman taught me how to love the game. He kept putting me in tough pressure situations all two years I was with him, and he believed in me every time. He also never got mad at me when I failed. He would sit me down and explain to me how I could learn from my mistakes to be a better player. He showed me a whole new level of softball that made me fall in love with the sport all over again.
He also was one of the only ones who stood by me when I quit my full ride at San Jose State, and he made the call to the OIT coach for me. Coach Eastman was the first coach that took a chance on me because he found me after my ACL surgery, when I could barely pitch, and he taught me how to play college softball. (more…)
