FORT JONES – The Mt. Shasta Bears had a rough start to the Marble Mountain Baseball Tournament. The Bears dropped the frigid morning opener to the Yreka Miners 2-1.
Mt. Shasta’s Erik Acord went 2-for-3, with a run and two steals. Andrew Campbell was 1-for-2, and Trent Hough was 1-for-3.
Ethan Garrett led the Miners, going 1-3, and scoring both Miner runs.
For the Bears, game two certainly wasn’t any better, as they lost to West Valley 8-2.
West Valley scored two runs in the first inning, one in the third, three in the fourth, and two in the fifth. Mt. Shasta managed to get on the board in the top of the sixth with a pair of runs, but the game was called on time limit.
Campbell went 2-for-3 for the Bears, with a double, and a run. Acord was 1-for-3, with a run and a steal. Erik Thelander went 1-for-3, with an RBI. Kevin Cole was 1-for-3.
The Bears and the Miners hooked up again on Saturday, with the Miners prevailing 9-6.
