Here’s the best of Siskiyou County high school football 2009 slide show, plus a couple COS shots. Performance wise, we had three teams make the section playoffs.

Dunsmuir (10-2) and Butte Valley (9-3) each made it to the Division-VI (8-man) semi-finals before being eliminated. Etna (4-6) exited in the first round of the Division-IV playoffs.

The following are my picks for the best teams and players. Remember, these are just my opinions based on what I saw this season.

• Best 11-Man Team: Mt. Shasta (beat Yreka)
• Best 8-Man Team: Dunsmuir
• Most Improved Team: Weed
• Best All-Around Player: Mark Maumasi, Mt. Shasta
• Most Exciting Players to Watch: Nate Gonzales, Dunsmuir; Ryan Hicks, Etna; Jeremy Lopez, Butte Valley
• Tough Guy: Travis Andrews, Weed

Predictions for next year

• Best 11-Man Team: Yreka
• Best 8-Man Team: Dunsmuir (but, don’t count out Butte Valley)
• Most Improved Team: Yreka
• Best All-Around Player: Tim Jaegel, Mt. Shasta
