DORRIS – The Butte Valley Bulldog soccer team used speed and finesse to shred the Etna Lion defense for three first half goals on the way to a decisive 4-1 win on Tuesday. Jose Avalos and Jose Gonzalez each tallied two goals, with Gonzalez also picking up an assist. Etna’s lone goal came on a penalty kick by Erik Anaya.
It took less than a minute for the Bulldogs to register their first goal. Gonzalez moved down the right side of the field and crossed a pass to Avalos who scored. Four minutes later, Avalos scored unassisted, making it 2-0. Gonzalez scored his first goal at the 30-minute mark, giving Butte Valley a 3-0 lead going into halftime.
Thirteen minutes into the second half, Gonzalez notched his second goal, upping the Bulldog lead to 4-0.
Etna avoided the shutout with a goal midway through the second half. Justin Hiett went in on a breakaway and was fouled in the penalty box, leading to a penalty kick for the Lions. Erik Anaya took the kick and placed the ball into the lower right corner of the net, making the score 4-1.
