The Eagles defeated Dunsmuir in the championship game, 39-36. Dunsmuir led by eight points at the half, but the Eagles were able to hold Dunsmuir scoreless in the third quarter and turn the tide in their favor.

Coach Chris Pappas tells the fourth quarter story:

“Like Dunsmuir, we have a very talented guard. Our guard’s name is Dillon Fitzmorris and I can guarantee you will be hearing that name for the next four years.

Dillon fouled out with about four minutes left to play and we had a 7-point lead. James Hipp and Cameron Peck filled in nicely and we held on for a 4-point victory.

I talked to the Dunsmuir coach after the game and he referred to our center Stewart Miller as “an animal”. (Stewart is a great rebounder) Carlos Magana our 2-guard scored the most important basket of the game, a lane slashing lay up with 2:00 minutes to go to put us up by four points. Trevor Shafer our 3-guard was asked prior to the game to “play big” and assert himself inside. Trevor came up with many key rebounds and was another key to victory. And alas, our other forward/center Luke Hart, was the second leading scorer and often the go-to guy on the post for offensive production.”

Pappas called his team a “great group of kids” and praised their unselfishness.

Dillon Fitzmorris led the Eagles in scoring with 18 points. Luke Hart had 12, Carlos Magana four, Stewart Miller had three, and Trevor Shaffer scored 2 points.

In addition to winning the SCAL tourney, Butteville also won their league, and the Weed Invitational tourney in the “A” Division.
