The Siskiyou Jaxx would like to take this opportunity to thank all of their sponsors who helped them fund their trip to Port Angeles Washington. It is a great feeling to have such a supportive and generous community. The Jaxx traveled to Port Angeles July 18 – 24 to compete in the Pacific Northwest Regional Senior Babe Ruth Tournament and they had a great experience. We all wish we could have come out on the winning end, but it is always a success when the youth of Siskiyou County are exposed to an opportunity like this. Not a lot of people get to travel like this to play baseball and all 18 members and two coaches of the Jaxx are very appreciative to all 39 businesses and individuals who donated and became a member of the “Siskiyou Jaxx Homerun Club.”

    Game-4, Saturday

The Jaxx saved their best performance for the final day, falling to the Toyota Bash, 2-1. The Bash are the NW Washington Champs.

Dylan Morris started the game, but had to leave after one inning with an arm injury.

Zach Salvestro tossed three shutout innings in relief. Cody Hoff pitched well in the fifth and sixth innings, and Russell Sweet struck out the side in the top of the seventh inning.

The Bash were the first on the board in the top of the 5th inning, taking a 1-0 lead.

The Jaxx answered right back with a run in the bottom of the frame, making it 1-1. Wade Beryhill was hit by a pitch to lead off, and went to second on a Brad Thomas sacrifice bunt. Michael Elfgin drove Berryhill home with a base hit.

The Bash went back on top, 2-1, in the sixth inning.

The Siskiyou Jaxx fell to the Southern Washington Senior Babe Ruth champs, 10-3, in the first game of pool play at the Regionals in Port Angeles, Washington on Wednesday.

The Jaxx, the Southern Oregon champs, had a couple of golden scoring opportunities, but were unable to take advantage. They were also hurt by two key errors, according to Coach Jason Freitas.

“They made the plays and we didn’t,” said Freitas.

Josh Lee led the Jaxx at the plate, going 2/3, with an RBI. Jake Mekeel and Ryan Todd each went 1/3, with an RBI. Russell Sweet was 1/2.

Sweet started on the hill and took the loss (5 IP, 4 ER). (more…)

KLAMATH FALLS – The Siskiyou 15-year-old All Stars went 3-2 in the Southern Oregon Babe Ruth All Star Tournament held at Steen Sports Park over the weekend. Siskiyou faced South Coast in the final–a team they had lost to earlier in the tourney. The result was the same the second time around, as South Coast claimed the championship with an 8-4 win over Siskiyou.

South Coast did all its offensive damage in the first four innings, putting up three runs in both the second and third innings, and a pair in the fourth inning. Carlos Sanchez took over on the hill to begin the fifth inning. Sanchez (1.2 IP), Aiden Hagarty (1.3 IP) and Matt Jespersen (1 IP) closed the door the rest of the way to give Siskiyou a chance for a comeback. Brandon Acord at third and Jespersen at short both turned in web-gem defensive plays.

Offensively, Siskiyou got on the board in the third inning with a run. With two down, Acord singled, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch, and scored when Gabe Durney reached on an error, making the score 6-1.

After South Coast scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning, Siskiyou countered with a deuce of their own. Clay Burket led off with a single, and moved to second on a walk to Colter Boswell. Both runners moved up 90 feet on a passed ball. Burket scored when Jespersen reached on an error. Boswell went to third on the play, and Jespersen wound up at second base. Boswell found his way home on a ground out by Cade Parker to make the score 8-3. (more…)

Play resumed at 9:00 am on Saturday. By then, the Siskiyou momentum was gone, and Klamath Falls took full advantage of the break, winning 11-9 in eight innings. (more…)
