Butte Valley v Hayfork D-VI finals (20) front

yac-300-b.jpgCHICO – The Butte Valley Lady Bulldogs captured the NSCIF D-VI Crown on Friday afternoon at Chico State’s Acker Gym. It wasn’t easy.

After winning its first 22 games of the season in dominating fashion, second-seeded Butte Valley faced the top-seeded Hayfork Lady Timberjacks for the championship. The contest went back and forth for most of the first quarter and a half, with the teams exchanging leads four times. However, trailing 16-13, Hayfork went on an 11-0 run to close out the half and headed to the locker room with a 24-16 lead. The Lady Jacks seemed to be in total control.

For the Lady Bulldogs, the wheels hadn’t quite come off, but it appeared that the lug nuts were lose and the rims were rattling. As it turned out, that wasn’t the case. (more…)

pwb-logo.jpgThe Butte Valley Lady Bulldogs have won the PremierWest Bank B-Ball Challenge for the 2009-10 season.

The Lady Bulldogs are the only Siskiyou County team to advance to the section finals. Butte Valley (22-0) will play for the NSCIF D-VI championship at Chico State on Friday at 2:30 pm against Hayfork (19-7).

The Lady Bulldogs will all receive custom made PremierWest Bank “Team of the Year” T-Shirts designed by Golden Grotto in Yreka.

Butte Valley advanced to the section finals via a 66-39 win over Loyalton on Wednesday night. The Etna Lady Lions (21-7) and Dunsmuir Tigers (11-14) were eliminated in the semi-finals on Tuesday  night. (more…)

Butte Valley v Westwood (8) front

West CoastDORRIS – It took a bit over three hours for the seventh-seeded Westwood Lady Lumber Jacks to make the trip to Butte Valley High School. It took the second-seeded Butte Valley Lady Bulldogs less than eight minutes to make it clear that the ride home for Westwood would be even longer.

Butte Valley (21-0) scored the first eight points of the game. Westwood (11-10) briefly interrupted the avalanche of points with a hoop of its own, about two minutes into the game. The Lady Jacks wouldn’t score again until two and a half minutes into the second quarter. Meanwhile, Butte Valley scored 19 more points in the first quarter to lead 27-2 going into the second frame. scm-ad.jpgFriday January 29, 2010 marked Winter Court for the students of Butte Valley High school. It started out with spirit week consisting of a sports day, futuristic day, Las Vegas day, Help Haiti day, and maroon and gold day. The best dressed boy and girl each day got a gift certificate for the local coffee shop Moody Brews.

It was a busy week all around for the students and staff of Butte Valley High school. They not only had their winter court games vs. Big Valley on Friday, but they also played Surprise Valley on Tuesday and Dunsmuir on Wednesday. (more…)

Butte Valley v Dunsmuir (4) front

West CoastDORRIS – The Butte Valley Bulldogs won both the varsity and junior varsity games against the visiting Dunsmuir Tigers, on Wednesday night. The Bulldog varsity prevailed 60-49, and the JVs won 53-39.

In the varsity game, the Bulldogs never trailed. Late in the first quarter, the score was tied 9-9, when Steven Berengue sandwiched 3-balls around a Tiger hoop by Lt Hisey, to put Butte Valley up 15-11 going into the second quarter.

Berengue also scored the first two baskets of the second quarter to up the Bulldogs lead to eight points, 19-11. However, the Tigers came roaring back to close to within a single bucket. (more…)

Dunsmuir v Butte Valley (1) front

sis-dist-ad-300.jpgDUNSMUIR – The Dunsmuir Tiger boys basketball team ran the table at the first annual Canyon Shootout tournament last weekend. The Butte Valley Bulldogs went 2-1 to finish second. The Tigers and Bulldogs tangled in what turned out to be the deciding game on Friday at Dunsmuir Elementary school, with the Tigers prevailing, 46-41, in a thriller.

It was a see-saw contest with neither team leading by more than three points, until the final score of the game. (more…)
