Impact PorterfieldThe first Impact Player Award for November goes to Butte Valley Lady Bulldog Kady Porterfield. Porterfield and her team recently wrapped up the Evergreen League volleyball championship—the first in Butte Valley history.

The Lady Bulldogs are loaded with talent. One of the most talented is Porterfield, who dominates both at the net and behind the service line. A junior, Porterfield leads her team in kills (203) and aces (76). She’s second in blocks with 30. Porterfield also leads the league in kills, and is third in aces and blocks.

It should also be mentioned that Porterfield is a multi sport athlete. As a sophomore last season, she was one of the best players on the Butte Valley softball team. You can also look for her to have a positive impact on the fortunes of the defending Evergreen League champion Lady Bulldogs basketball team this season.

The Impact Player Award is given on a monthly basis and goes to Siskiyou County high school athletes, male or female, that have had a significant impact on the success of their team. I select the players based on my own observations, often in consultation with the player’s coaches.

KCWH ImpactA total of four awards may be given each month and are not school specific; they can go to a player at any school that Siskiyou Youth covers. Winners receive Impact T-shirts that were designed by Golden Grotto. The T-shirts and award are cosponsored by SiskiyouYouth.com and NorCal Classic Hits radio, KCWH, 102.3/101.7

Tylor Cilione is a senior this year at Butte Valley High School. She has lived in Butte Valley all her life, and has made wonderful contributions to her class. She was student body vice president, and helped make many great things happen for the school, such as prom.

Tylor put on a summer camp for anyone who wanted to practice basketball. The first week she set it up for elementary school students to come and learn the correct way to play basketball, and have fun doing it. Then, she worked with the middle school and high school students. This one she made tougher and gave them more of a challenge since most of them had already played basketball.

Tylor then contacted Sacramento University and arranged for her high school basketball team to go to Sacramento for a training camp that they were having there for high school students. She had no help from the school, or even her coach, when contacting the head coach at Sacramento University. Tylor would not give up until she knew for certain that they were able to go to the camp.

bowen-ad-rev.jpgTylor has been very active in sports all through her high school career. She played volleyball and basketball her freshman and sophomore years. Then in her junior year, her basketball season was cut short by a blown out knee. Tylor finished out her high school career with basketball and softball in her senior year.

During her last basketball season she fulfilled her dream of making it to the section championship game and coming within one point of winning in double overtime. (more…)
