Jr. PeeWees
The Yreka Chargers Jr. PeeWees dominated the Willows Coyotes from the opening drive to the final whistle last Saturday, winning 5-2. The Coyotes had no answer to the Chargers’ offense. Yreka’s Lane Clark and Blake Shepard led the Chargers to scores on their first two possessions, making the score 2-0 early on. And what would a Y-Town bookstore-october.jpgJr. Pee Wee game be without the Clark-to-Vulyak Connection? On fourth and eleven from the Coyotes’ 20-yard-line, Clark hooked up with Vulyak for a twenty yard touchdown reception and a 3-0 lead. Yreka was able to add two more scores and that was more than enough elbow room for the Charger defense.

Virusur Lantz, Hayz Lantz, Charles Lopez and the “Y-Town Hitman”, Jeremy Persing, kept the Coyotes’ offense on their heels the whole game. Persing had several big hits in the game, which forced the Coyote coaching staff to have to know where number “24″ was at. (more…)

The Yreka Chargers Jr. Pee Wees lost another close game on Saturday to the visiting Orland Aztecs, 3-1. The Aztecs, behind their big (and fast) running back, jumped out to a 2-1 first half lead. Yreka’s lone first half score was set up by a 40-yard run by Lane Clark, which put Yreka inside the Orland 5 yard line. Three plays later Clark, with the help of blocks from Virusur Lantz, Tadd Weed and the right side of the Yreka line, was able to find the end zone. Y-Town couldn’t find the end zone in the second half, due in large part to a stingy Orland defense.

Can you say defense? At home on Saturday at Miner Field, the mighty Chargers PeeWee defense showed Orland no mercy. In a nail-biting, heart-pounding finish, the Chargers were forced to show their strength in the final seconds of the game at the goal line with Orland having the ball. Orland tried for three straight downs to push the ball over the goal line, but the wall of the Charger PeeWees’ defense which included Drew Robles, Tyler Hockaday, Stevie Albers, Marquis Pitts, Parker Sanders, Aaron Durney, Cooper Bruhns, Keith Lipke, Scott Hopper, Gar Weed and Thomas Colla, grabbed on and pushed harder, leaving Orland unable to score. Junior Pee Wees
It was a hot West Valley on Saturday, and “hot” would be the word to describe the Jr. Pee Wee contest between the West Valley Jr. Eagles and the Yreka Chargers. On the first play from scrimmage, QB Lane Clark had trouble handling the snap from center and a West Valley player took the ball out of his hands and scampered 40 yards for a quick score.

Yreka answered right back on the next possession with a northerncapaving-225.jpg55-yard touchdown run by Clark, but had the play called back due to an illegal block in the back. On Yreka’s next offensive series, Clark hooked up with sure-handed receiver Roman Vulyak on a play action pass and Vulyak took it 50 yards to the house for a Yreka score. The “Clark to Vulyak” connection sent Yreka to halftime with a tie score. (more…)

Jr. Pee Wees
The Yreka Chargers Jr. Pee Wee football team lost a very close home game on Saturday, August 30 to the Foothill Jr. Cougars. During the second half; the fired up, hard hitting Charger defense of Charles Lopez, Jeremy Persing, Caden Corbin, Tyraye Bush and Dalton Lester, prevented the Jr. Cougars from scoring. The Charger defensive line of Payton Charlesworth, Dylan Quigley, Robert Giannini, and Hayz Lantz had some great gang tackles northerncapaving-225.jpgand one particularly impressive sack on the Jr. Cougars offense.

On the offensive side, Charger QB Tadd Weed completed two great passes to Lopez and Persing. Lane Clark made a great run scoring a touchdown for the Chargers. Clark , Weed and Virusur Lantz ran the ball well, but unfortunately the Cougar defense kept them just short of finding the end zone again.

Head Coach Ron Quigley was very proud of the way his boys played against the Jr. Cougars. Quigley stated that it was a great game and that the boys all played extremely well against a tough upper division team. (more…)
