A couple of hours after the College of the Siskiyous Lady Eagles celebrated at least a share of the Golden Valley Conference title with a win over visiting Feather River College, the Feather River Golden Eagles mens team returned the favor, as they clinched the GVC title with a hard fought 77-66 win over COS.

COS (4-5, 8-16) made sure that the GVC title would be earned. FRC scored the first six points of the contest. However, Ronnie Fields and the Eagles came right back at the Golden Eagles. Fields scored nine of COS’ first 11 points on two treys and three freebies. With FRC leading 12-11, Eric Moore drained a 3-ball to give COS the lead 14-12, with 12:27 left in the first half. Thirty seconds later, TJ Little drove the lane to extend the lead to four points, 16-12.

With help from a COS technical foul call, FRC came back to gain a 6-point advantage, 26-20. But again, COS answered. Moore was fouled while shooting a trey, and sank all three freebies, 26-23. Then, Fields was fouled on a 3-point attempt, and he dropped in all three free shots, tying the game, 26-26. Little took advantage of a strong pick by 32-year-old Terence Waters Jr., and went to the hoop for a deuce, giving COS a 28-26 lead with five minutes to go in the half. (more…)

The College of the Siskiyous Lady Eagles clinched at least a share of the Golden Valley Conference title with a 74-57 win over the visiting Feather River Golden Eagles on Wednesday night. COS (8-1, 21-3) holds a half game lead over the College of the Redwoods (8-2, 16-8). The only thing standing in the way of an outright championship is Butte College (1-7, 5-18) in the Eagles GVC finale on Friday night.

The Lady Eagles took a quick 4-0 lead over Feather River (6-4, 12-13) on buckets by Lauren Lesina and Hailey Wales. However, Feather River came back with a 10-0 run to lead 10-4, with 16:15 left in the first half.

The Lady Eagles answer? Shayanna Ashworth off the bench for instant offense. Ashworth drained a 3-ball at the 16-minute mark, 10-7. After Feather River hit a three, Ashworth dropped in a deuce, a trey, and a freebie to tie the contest at 13-13, with 11:57 to go in the half. Jo Jo Grant scored to give COS the lead, 15-13, and a put back by Anna Cameron made it 17-13. (more…)
