West CoastThe Yreka Little League’s opening day is scheduled for Saturday, April 2 at Ringe Park, in Yreka. In addition to the traditional Hit-A-Thon fundraiser of seasons past, the major and minor teams will be scrimmaging all day beginning with the A’s vs Padres at 9:30 am, after opening ceremonies at 9:00 am. The scrimmages will be 30 minutes long and every minor & major team will have the opportunity to play in two of them.

The snack shack will be serving a lasagna special. There will also be shirts for sale with the Yreka Little League slogan for 2011, “Baseball with Attitude,” which are said to be “very cute” and have a picture of a ball eating a bat. Won last night 13-1 against Red Bluff. Play East Redding on Friday at 6:00 pm in Red Bluff. Beat Corning in round-1.

West CoastREDDING – The Yreka and South Siskiyou nine and ten year old Little League All-Stars met in the second round of the District-1 playoffs on Monday, with Yreka emerging victorious, 7-4.

Yreka opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, Tadd Weed singled. Weed moved to second base on a hit by Tyler Hedin, and went to third when Eamon Velarde reached on an error. Weed scored on a wild pitch, giving Yreka the lead 1-0.

South Siskiyou came right back with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. Nathan Pappas took a walk to lead off. Pappas then made the trip home via three wild pitches. With two down, Kaimana Ferguson walked. Ferguson advanced to second when Colten Bertolucci was hit by a pitch. Ferguson scored when Courtlen Cates reached on an error, putting South Siskiyou on top 2-1. (more…)

The D-Rays and the Cardinals came into Monday night’s game in Weed undefeated in the South Siskiyou Little League Majors round robin tournament. Both squads had already beaten the Mets and the Rangers.

With the post season championship on the line, D-Ray starting and winning pitcher Joey Spini was almost perfect through the first five innings before being relieved due to pitch count. Spini struck out 13 Cardinals, while allowing only one hit and one earned run. (more…)
