Cowboys and cowgirls from all over the west will be in Yreka on Saturday August 14, 2010 to compete in the Scott Valley Bank sponsored CCPRA Rodeo at the Siskiyou Golden Fair.

Four Star Rodeo Company from Cottonwood will produce the fair rodeo and provide the rough stock. Four Star’s herd has some of the rankest bulls and broncs in the rodeo business.

Each year, generous fair sponsors provide top-notch buckles to the winners in each event and a specialized roping bag is given to the all-around winner.

This year’s sponsors include Best Western Tree House Inn; Hi Lo Café, Frank’s Fuel; PremierWest Bank; John Brinton Well Drilling; Rex Club; Country Drug; Dr. Bruce Riger; Cross Petroleum; Black Bear Diner; Medical Center Pharmacy & Compounding; Yreka Immediate Care; Glenn Rizzardo, Rita Rose & Ray Singleton of Minton Hometown Properties; Clarity Medical Spa; Fawaz Farming; Friends of the Fair.

The Siskiyou County Mutton Busting Championship will lead of the evening with the winners from the six local rodeos all competing for the overall Siskiyou County championship buckle and bragging rights.

A local event favorite, Siskiyou Saddle Cow, will see six teams, two from Scott Valley Pleasure Park May Rodeo, two from the Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo and two from the Scott Valley Old Time Rodeo compete for the coveted title of Champion.

This one action packed night of California Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association fun will start with Mutton Busting and the Scott Valley Pleasure Park Drill Team at 7:00 p.m. in the Scott Valley Bank Grandstand. Slack will be run Saturday afternoon at the grandstand and will be open to the public. (more…)

Cricket and Dillon 2

svpt-small.jpgLast December, SiskiyouYouth.com did a story about Cricket Postma and her quest to make it to the American Quarter Horse Association Youth World Reining Championships in Oklahoma City this July and August. Cricket and her horse, I’m a Dillon Dun It, have qualified. Now, all she has to do is raise the $5,000 it will take to get her and Dillon to the show and back. Horse transportation alone is expected to be about $2000.

“It’s still setting in that I actually qualified. It seems like only yesterday I was telling people it was this up coming summer and I was hoping to go. Well it is just around the corner now! But I am extremely excited and dedicated to doing whatever it takes to be as prepared as Dillon and I can be. This year I’m not going with the Idea of winning or anything. It’s about being able to share the experience with Dillon. Of course I will still be competitve. It’s not about the win. It’s about the ride to get there. Dillon has taken me to new heights in my life. Not only in the horse world but other areas too. He has helped increase my self confidence, joy for the good things in life, love for animals, and people skills, believe it or not. I know this trip will be the experience of a lifetime!” said Cricket. (more…)
