MOUNT SHASTA – It was a pretty good tournament for the Scott Valley Panthers girls basketball teams at the Sisson Cubco tournament on Friday and Saturday. The 8th graders beat Weed Elementary’s Cubs, 19-16, in a hard fought battle for the Championship. Scott Valley’s 7th graders finished 2nd, after losing lost to Fall River in the championship game, 50-19.

The 8th grade championship game may have been a preview of many Shasta Cascade League high school battles over the next few years, with both teams showing tremendous promise.

Hannah Seeley opened the scoring with a hoop for the Panthers. Kendall Moser put Weed on the board with a free throw, 2-1. Weed took the lead, 3-1, on a bucket by Tia Palangranh. Mariya Whittaker dished out an assist to Sage Gomes to put Scott Valley back in the lead, 4-3. A put-back by Natalie Aldrich made it 6-3. Moser scored for the Cubs off a rebound to make it 6-5 at the end of the first quarter. (more…)
