The Friends of the Scott Valley Swimming Pool would like to thank everyone who was involved in helping make the Poolside Luau a successful fundraiser to help save the Dotty Olson Pool. We were able to raise $9,500 which along with other fundraiser’s and donations has made it possible to keep the Dotty Olson Pool open to the public next summer! (more…)

The Rachel Hanna Swim Olympics will be held on Saturday, August 20 at the Dotty Olson (Scott Valley) Community Swimming Pool in Etna, beginning at 11:00 am. There will be games for all ages and the finale of the day will be the ever popular Biggest Splash Competition. There are also sportsmanship awards. The event is free for everyone. Ribbons are given out to all participants. The pool snack bar will also be open.

There are games and races for all ages. The younger swimmers ages 8-and-under can participate in the Coin Wish Pond, Duck-In Duck-Out race, and Underwater One Breath race. For the more advanced swimmers there will be a variety of races and other fun games. Among the more popular events are the Tee-Shirt Relay race, the Diving competition and the favorite Biggest Splash contest. Ribbons are awarded in all games and age groups.

There is a special award given to one competitor for Best Sportsmanship and the winner of this award will have his or her name added to a plaque that remains in the Scott Valley Community Pool throughout the year. Several ribbons will also be awarded to competitors who exhibit kindness and good sportsmanship throughout the day. (more…)

The Scott Valley Swim Team and Yreka Swim Team competed at the North Valley Aquatic League Championships last weekend in Redding. Scott Valley finished eighth out of 13 teams in the team standings. Yreka was tenth. The Anderson Aquagators took the top spot.

Katie Eiler from SVST turned in the best individual performance by a Siskiyou County swimmer, finishing second in the 17-18 girls division.  Jacob Gross from YST and Wyatt Monday from SVST had the best boys finishes. Gross was third in the 11-12 boys division, and Monday was third in the 13-14 boys division.

The host Yreka Swim Team finished second at the 8th annual Yreka Swim Team Invitational held at Ringe Pool over the weekend. Yreka posted 552 points to the winning Weaverville Swim Team’s total of 920.50. The Scott Valley Swim Team Sharks were third with 460 points. South Siskiyou Swim Team finished fifth with 83 points. The Red Bluff Tritons were fourth (396), and Sun Oak Aquatics Redding was sixth (52.50).

Scott Valley Swim Team Sharks Aly McEwen (l) and Katie Eiler both finished second in their respective divisions. Eiler set four pool records.

valley-tire-red-300.jpgIt was smoke on water last weekend at the Anderson Swim Meet, as Shark Katie Eiler set four pool records at the meet held at West Valley High School. She also finished second overall in the 17-18 Girls Division.

For the third straight swim meet, Scott Valley Shark Aly McEwen took first place overall in the 15-16 Girls Division (46 points), last weekend. Competing at the Red Bluff Triton Invitational swim meet, McEwen took first in four events–200 IM, 100 Breast, 100 Free, and 100 Breast. She was second in the 100 Back and 1oo Butterfly. McEwen also picked up a pair of third place finishes in the 50 Free and 200 Free. (more…)

valley-tire-red-300.jpgOver 220 swimmers competed at the Scott Valley Swim Team Sharkfest meet over the weekend. The Sharks finished third in the team competition. Scott Valley’s Katie Eiler finished 1st in the 17-18 girls division, and Aly McEwen took 1st in the 15-16 girls division.

Yreka’s top finisher was Bailey Fisher who was 2nd in the 11-12 girls division.

Sydnie Frisbee and Mia Michelle Morris were the South Siskiyou Swim Team’s top finishers, with Frisbee 2nd in the 7-8 girls division, and Morris 2nd in the 6 and under girls division.

mittan-ad-300.jpgThe Scott Valley Swim Team will be hosting Sharkfest 2011 this weekend in Etna. Over 200 swimmers from Northern California and Southern Oregon are expected to compete, including 68 SVST Sharks.

The Yreka and South Siskiyou teams will also be competing in the races that start at 9:00 am on both Saturday and Sunday.

Concessions will be available, including a snow cone booth and a coffee booth, as well as a BBQ with hamburgers and hot dogs. (more…)
