Kendall Nielsen and Mac Wessell led the way for the Sharks, with Nielsen placing 2nd in the 17-18 year old girls division, and Wessell taking 2nd in the 13-14 year old boys division.
Other top-ten finishes for the Sharks were Aly McEwen in 5th for girls 17-18; Lee Wessell 7th for boys 9-10; Darby Hanna 8th in girls 15-16; and Tuner Hudson 9th for boys 8 & under. (more…)Share on Facebook

The annual Scott Valley Swim Team SharkFest swim meet was held last Fri-Sun in Etna. The top three teams and top three individuals in each age group received awards. Below are results for Siskiyou County swimmers. Thank you to Ronda McEwen for providing the results. Photos should be posted soon.
1st – Anderson Aquagators 1,389.50 pts.
2nd – Weaverville Swim Team 975 pts.
3rd – Scott Valley Swim Team 785.50 pts
4th – Yreka Splash Swimmers 325 pts
5th – Red Bluff Tritons 304 pts.
6th – Redding Aqua Ducks 187 pts
7th – South Siskiyou Swim Team 86 pts.

Over 200 swimmers from seven teams are expected to compete. There will be Steele Tee’s from Weaverville on site doing t-shirts and Siskiyou Mudd doing various coffees and drinks. Friends of the Pool will be selling sno-cones. The team parents will be doing a concession stand with bar-b-que hot dogs, hamburgers, and assorted drinks. Programs will be available for $3.50.
“It is going to be a great time with great weather and friendly, but challenging competition,” said SVST board president Mark Peaty.
There will also be a “Panda Party” after the finish of competition on Saturday. See below for more info on the Panda Party, as well as the order of events for the swim meet. (more…)Share on Facebook

The Friends of the Scott Valley Swimming Pool would like to thank everyone who was involved in helping make the Poolside Luau a successful fundraiser to help save the Dotty Olson Pool. The Rachel Hanna Swim Olympics will be held on Saturday, August 20 at the Dotty Olson (Scott Valley) Community Swimming Pool in Etna, beginning at 11:00 am. There will be games for all ages and the finale of the day will be the ever popular Biggest Splash Competition. There are also sportsmanship awards. The event is free for everyone. Ribbons are given out to all participants. The pool snack bar will also be open.
There are games and races for all ages. The younger swimmers ages 8-and-under can participate in the Coin Wish Pond, Duck-In Duck-Out race, and Underwater One Breath race. For the more advanced swimmers there will be a variety of races and other fun games. Among the more popular events are the Tee-Shirt Relay race, the Diving competition and the favorite Biggest Splash contest. Ribbons are awarded in all games and age groups.
There is a special award given to one competitor for Best Sportsmanship and the winner of this award will have his or her name added to a plaque that remains in the Scott Valley Community Pool throughout the year. Several ribbons will also be awarded to competitors who exhibit kindness and good sportsmanship throughout the day. (more…)Share on Facebook

The Scott Valley Swim Team and Yreka Swim Team competed at the North Valley Aquatic League Championships last weekend in Redding. Scott Valley finished eighth out of 13 teams in the team standings. Yreka was tenth. The Anderson Aquagators took the top spot.
Katie Eiler from SVST turned in the best individual performance by a Siskiyou County swimmer, finishing second in the 17-18 girls division. Jacob Gross from YST and Wyatt Monday from SVST had the best boys finishes. Gross was third in the 11-12 boys division, and Monday was third in the 13-14 boys division.
