Shasta Lady Cougar Basketball Player of the Week is Jennifer Marshall. “She had a good overall game covering a much larger player, and she had a big basket late in the game to seal it,” said West about Marshall’s performance against Redding Christian last week. Weed Lady Cougar basketball coach Bob West has chosen Tyresha Leonard as the Pepsi of Mt. Shasta Lady Cougar Basketball Player of the Week. Leonard averaged 9 points and 5 assists per game last week against U-Prep and Dunsmuir, as well as playing “great defense,” according to West. (more…)

Weed Lady Cougar basketball coach Bob West’s choice for the Pepsi of Mt. Shasta Lady Cougar Basketball Player of the Week is Karene Marshall. Marshall averaged over 15 points per game in the Holiday Tournament last weekend, including a 25 point performance in the consolation game against Cosumnes Oaks. She hit four 3-balls in the game, as well as pulling down 6 rebounds and dishing out 5 assists. (more…)

Weed volleyball coach Steve Neel’s pick for this week’s Pepsi of Mt. Shasta Lady Cougar Player of the Week…”The team for all their hard work and commitment to being outstanding teammates.”

To coach Neel’s comments, I’d like to add a couple of things. First, the Lady Cougars were easily the most improved team in Siskiyou County this season, going 9-12-1, after winning only two matches all of last season, and none the season before that. They also notched three wins in Shasta Cascade League play this season. Weed’s grand total of SCL wins in the prior seven seasons was two. And , of course, they pulled off the biggest SCL volleyball upset of the year, when they knocked off Mt. Shasta, 3-2, denying the Lady Bears a share of the league title. With only one senior on this year’s squad, the future looks very bright for the Lady Cougars. (more…)

Weed volleyball coach Steve Neel’s choice for the Pepsi of Mt. Shasta Lady Cougar Volleyball Player of the Week is Jillian Neel, a 2-time recipient of the award. Neel was chosen for, “… her overall hustle and team floor leadership. Great 5th game setting and serving in our win over Mt. Shasta.”

Neel had 35 assists, 6 total blocks and a pair of aces in the Mt. Shasta match. (more…)

Marielle Schnack is the first two-time selection for the Pepsi of Mt. Shasta Lady Cougar Volleyball Player of the Week. Selected by Weed coach Steve Neel for her “great all around play last week,” Schnack is also one of the top hitters in the Shasta Cascade League, averaging 2.9 kills per game. (more…)
