The NorCalFed Board of Directors voted over the weekend to not renew the Yreka Chargers annual membership, effectively leaving the Chargers with no one to play in the up coming season. The reason cited by NorCalFed Commissioner Bill Fox in a news story done by KTVL TV in Medford was the expense of travel for the other teams. Read KTVL story here.

The Chargers are planning an emergency meeting for tonight, Monday, January 24. (more…)

The Siskiyou Knights Unlimited team traveled to Henley, Oregon to face the Stingers in a playoff game to settle 3rd and 4th place. The Knights fell short as the Stingers won 26–6. The Knights saw very little offense due to successful on-side kicking by the Stingers.

The Unlimited team finished the season in fourth place, at 4-4. This is quite an accomplishment for a first year team in a new league. The Knights seem to have found a home in the Klamath Falls Pop Warner Football League and look forward to many more seasons with great anticipation for great success.

The Knights will be holding an awards ceremony for coaches and players November 9, at 6:00 PM in the Sisson Elementary School cafeteria. Players are asked to return all equipment at this time. Those who ordered pictures will receive them on this evening. (more…)

mittan-ad-300.jpgThe final game of league play for the Yreka Chargers Junior Midgets division ended in a shutout victory. The weather finally turned, and this game was played in wet, cold, and windy conditions. Never the less, the Chargers persevered, and won it, 15-0, over the Anderson Jr. Cubs.

As the wind limited the pass attack to a few nice receptions, the Chargers mounted an effective run game with Drew Kannely- Robles finding the end zone four times. Two touchdowns were called back on penalties, but a 30-yard run, and a 7-yard smash through were good for 12 points. A successful 2-point kick, and a 1-point run, gave the Chargers their 15 game winning points.

Nathan Black took over center duties, and performed outstanding despite the slick conditions. Evan Shinar was rock solid at right tackle, and helped lead the O- line to enable the run attack. Franky Garcia shored up the left side at guard. (more…)

JR MIDGETS
This was a game of two evenly matched teams, both with standout play-making abilities, and everyone knew it was going to go down to the wire. In a brawl of a game, the Yreka Chargers Junior Midgets division suffered their first defeat, and watched their perfect season end to the Orland Aztecs by a score of 16-14.

All of the scoring came in the first half of play, as the second half was a defensive stalemate in which neither team gave up anything more. The two point differential was sufficient to enable the Aztecs to take over on a change of possession with under 2 minutes, and take three consecutive knees to end the game. (more…)
