Last weekend, the Charger Mighty Mites took on the Central Valley Jr. Falcons. It was a competition against equals, as they battled to a tie. The two Mighty Mite teams played aggressively on both sides of the ball, all the way to the end of the fourth quarter. The hard to take down Skylar “The Wreckn’ Ball” Conrad scored another touchdown for the season as did Jake “The Snake” Peterson. Defensively all the Charger Mighty Mites played at their best. Devon Applewhite made impressive tackles, as did Wesley Ward. Many fumbles were caused by the Charger defense making for a very exciting fourth quarter. We have one more game left against the Corning Lions this next Saturday at 8:45 am.

Jr. Pee Wees
On Saturday, October 17, the Yreka Chargers Junior Pee Wees traveled to Central Valley to take on the unbeaten JR. Falcons. It was a hard fought battle and at the end of the game the score was tied, bringing both teams to a league record 4-0-1. The Chargers Jr. Pee Wees started off the game by scoring on a 35 yard touchdown run by Tyraye Bush. On this drive, and all day long, the offensive line, including Dylan Frick, Jarred Weiser, Delbert Hensen, Anthony Sedenjo, Payton Charlesworth, Cage Hubbard and Dalten Lester did a great job of blocking. The Jr. Falcons answered back with a touchdown drive of their own. In the 2nd quarter the Chargers got the ball moving again and Tyraye Bush scored on a 20-yard touchdown run up the middle.

In the second half, the Chargers Jr. Pee Wees defense held the Falcons on their first drive and the Jr. Pee Wees offense came up running. Jeremy Persing had a 35-yard run, then Devin Gomes added a 14-yard run. Robert Giannini capped the drive off with a 1-yard touchdown run up the middle. The Jr. Falcons answered back in the 3rd quarter and scored a touchdown. In the 4th quarter Tyraye bush had a 33-yard touchdown run, but the Falcons came back and scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter ending the game in a tie.

The Chargers Junior PeeWees overall record is now 5-1-2 and league record is 4-0-1.

Pee Wees
The Central Valley Falcons ended the Yreka Chargers PeeWee’s bid for a playoff spot with a 12-7 win over the Chargers on Saturday. Hayz Lantz started the game strong with the first tackle of the game, knocking his opponent out of bounds. Central Valley responded by turning up the heat, scoring twice against the Chargers’ mighty defense.
With the Falcons leading 12-0 after the gritty first half, the Chargers added a glimpse of hope with a 33-trap play that the offense loves to run.

While the offensive line held off the CV defense, Patrick Bigelow exploded with a 60-yard touchdown run. The entire run was aided by the “see it to believe it” blocking of the masterful Lane Clark; who managed to hold off two defenders the whole way. Also included in the Bigelow play were Caden Corbin, Dylan Quigley, Melkay Cisneros and Bryce McWilliams; who led the blocks. Dominic Villagomes added to the score by running in the extra point.

More Charger highlights: Parker Sanders ran solid the entire game. Ryan Bridenstine and Payton Dickinson connected yet again with two nice passes. Chase McDonald had several nice runs on offense and great open field tackles on defense. Tyler O’Gorman disrupted many of Central Valley’s plays by chasing down the quarterback all day. Roman Vulyak had great corner plays with some very nice solo tackles. Bigelow was also a very strong presence on defense.

“Great nail-biter of a game,” said Head Coach Neil Bridenstine, “Very exciting!”

Jr. Midgets
On a sunny afternoon in Central Valley, thunder and lighting struck the Jr. Falcons after the Yreka Chargers took the field and won 20-0.

Tyler Hockaday and Drew Robles rushed for 194 combined yards with each scoring a touchdown. Eddie Robles steam-rolled for a 2-yard touchdown. These hard earned yards were aided by a determined offensive line of Jovani Cabrera-Guevara, Andrew Daugherty, Zach Woodruff, Zane Allen, Aaron Freeze, Tyler Smith, Tyler Frost, Aiden Stryker, Cody Jensen, and Jonathan Bridgewater who blocked all day for the running backs.

QB Tyler Currie had a light workout connecting on 2 of 4 passes and picking up a crucial first down on one of the TD drives. The Charger team racked up 213 total yards and 3 touchdowns for the day. For a second week in a row the defense kept their opponents out of the end zone. Max Simon, Colton Dickinson, Garrett Rider, Stevie Albers, Scott Wallace, Wyatt Wood, Joseph Betts, Eric Fernandes, Aaron Durney, Dustin Yates, Anthony Garcia and Tristen Fonseca had numerous tackles throughout the day. D. Robles lead all teammates with a total of 9 solo tackles.

As a team, the Chargers had a total of 38 solo tackles, two fumble recoveries, and a well timed interception by Braden Whitehouse. Whitehouse leads the Charger Jr. Midgets with 5 interceptions in the season.

The team is on a 4 game winning streak which makes their league standing 4-1 which is good enough to guarantee a spot in post season playoffs.

The Chargers will face their toughest opponent at home this Saturday against the Corning Lions who are undefeated. Come out and cheer on your team for our last home game for 2009.

Midgets
The Yreka Chargers Midgets traveled to Central Valley on Saturday to take on the undefeated Falcons. Yreka played the Falcons tough in the first half trailing 20-16 at the break. Yreka’s scoring was led by Michael Schuler who threw a TD to Michael Lawe and then had a TD reception from Kaden Culp. Andrew Andreas tacked on both PAT conversions for Yreka’s final tally.

Central Valley showed their size and depth in the second half, eventually wearing down the Charger’s. The Falcon’s rolled up 4 second half scores that Yreka could not answer. Each and everyone of the charger Midget boys showed there strength against the Falcons and are ready to show more of their strength as they prepare for their final league game, this Saturday at home against Corning.

The Yreka Chargers Football and Cheer organization would like for all Chargers Fans to show up Saturday and support our kids in their last home game of the year.
