Mighty Mites

y-ad-1-click.jpgOn Saturday, October 24, the Charger Mighty Mites took on the Corning Lions. The Corning Lions were a tough competition for the Charger Mighty Mites both offensively and defensively. The Charger Mighty Mites put forth every effort while battling the Corning Lions. First quarter defense was strong but not strong enough for the Corning Lions; the charger Mighty Mites made the Corning Lions fight for every positive yard that they gained. Great tackles were made by Devon Applewhite, Davon Ruiz, Wesley Ward, Jake Peterson and Skylar Conrad. Makayla ten Berge had an outstanding tackle in the third quarter. Offensively Travis Arwood, Travis Hedin, Randal Hughes, Antonio Fernandez and the rest of the Charger offensive did a great job blocking and running the ball; the fumbles at the goal line however kept bringing the Mighty Mites back to the 40 yard line.

Jr. Pee Wees

The Yreka Chargers Junior Pee Wees took on the 4-1 Corning Lions. The Chargers JPWs started off the game with the ball and on the first play from scrimmage Tyraye Bush scored on a 60 yard touchdown run. The Lions answered with a touchdown on their first possession. The Chargers JPWs scored three more touchdowns in the first half with a 50-yard touchdown run by Tyraye Bush, a 35-yard touchdown run by Jeremy Persing and a 45-yard touchdown run by Tyraye Bush. The Lions scored one more time in the first half.

In the second half the Chargers JPWs scored on a 15-yard touchdown run by Jeremy Persing. The Chargers JPWs kept the Lions out of the end zone in the second half showing that their defense is one of the best in the game.

All in all, the Chargers JPWs showed why they are tied for first place in the division with a league record of 5-0-1, the same record as Central Valley. The Chargers JPWs will travel to Central Valley for the championship game in the JPW division.

Pee Wees

On Saturday, October 24, the Yreka Chargers Pee Wee football team played their final home game of the 2009 season against the Corning Lions. The game was dominated by defense all day.  The Yreka Chargers defense made it really hard for Corning to get any yards in the first half. With smashing hits made by the D-Line which included Juan Cota, Dominic Villagomes, Tyler Hedin, David Ruiz and Evan Shinar, it was very hard for the Lions to run up the middle. And when the Corning Lions couldn’t run, they tried the passing game, but with no luck. The outstanding play of cornerbacks Chase McDonald and Lane Clark along with safety Christian Martinez and the power hitting of linebackers Parker Sanders, Blake Batchelor and Patrick Bigelow made the passing game obsolete.  As the first half came to an end, the score was tied, 0-0.

The second half saw the Chargers Blue Defense come out with the same intensity as the Red D. With fire in their eyes, Connor Lawe, Charles Lopez, Roman Vulyak, Gabriel Hughes, Tyler O’Gorman and Josh Hansen played every down until the whistle blew. The Chargers offense tried to get on the board with some punishing runs by Patrick Bigelow and Parker Sanders, but the Chargers just could not penetrate the Lions defense. And, with just a couple of minutes left in the game, the fans starting thinking overtime.  But overtime was just that, a thought. The Corning Lions scored, and with the extra point field goal made the end score 8-0.  The Yreka Charger Pee Wees would like to thank everyone that has volunteered for their team this past year and to all the fans. They would also like to thank their parents for all the support and love.  See you next year and GO CHARGERS!!!!

Midgets

The Yreka Charger Midgets wrapped up their regular season on Saturday by playing the Corning Lions. The Chargers were mauled by the Lions 41-7. Poor tackling was again Yreka’s nemesis as the Lions roared up and down the field.
Yreka’s lone score came on a bootleg by Kaden Culp. Andrew Andreas tacked on the PAT. Andreas also had a sack. Trystan Howard played tough for the Chargers as did Jacob Maphet. Quaid Blanchard had a solid game from his LB/WR positions. The Yreka Chargers Midgets travel to Yuba City Saturday October 31st to take on the Honkers in the first round of the playoffs.
