Mighty Mites
Not only did the Yreka Chargers Mighty Mites have to face the South Siskiyou Knights this past Saturday, they also had to battle the cold temperatures and freezing winds. This was a scrimmage style game with half of the Chargers Mighty Mites taking turns filling positions for the South Siskiyou team. Jake Peterson, scored two touchdowns for the South Siskiyou team, while Davon Ruiz, ran his first ever touch down for the Yreka Chargers Mighty Mites. Next week, don’t miss the 8:45 am face off against Willows. If you haven’t seen these little guys play you are really missing out.
Jr. Pee Wees
On Saturday, October 3, 2009, the Yreka Chargers Junior Pee Wees took on the South Siskiyou Knights in Mount Shasta. At the start of the game, the Knights only had seven players, so the Yreka Chargers Jr. Pee Wees sent several of their own players to the Knights to make the teams even. Both teams played hard hitting football during the game. The Charger Jr. Pee Wee had five different players score a touchdown this week, Tyraye Bush, Jeremy Persing, Robert Giannini, Cale Cool and Devin Gomes. Caleb Hammond also got his first rushing attempts of the season and gained several hard fought yards. The Chargers Junior Pee Wees’ defensive squad played tough and kept the Knights offense out of the end zone all day. The Chargers Junior Pee Wees record is now 4-1-1 overall and 3-0-0 in league.
Pee Wees
On a very cold day in Mt. Shasta, the Yreka Charger Pee Wees gave their all against cross county rival, the South Siskiyou Knights, winning the game 32-6.
It wasn’t clear whether Defensive Lineman David Ruiz played the game for his Afghanistan-bound Marine Corps brother or if he was playing because of the cross county rivalry. Either way, Ruiz played like a soldier on a mission. With two sacks, two fumble recoveries and a strong presence in the backfield the entire day, Ruiz proved that he is a force to be reckoned with.
Scoring for the Chargers were Parker Sanders with two touchdowns, Lane Clark and Chase McDonald each with one, and a beautiful touchdown pass from QB Ryan Bridenstine to the skillful hands of Payton Dickinson. On the extra point try, Patrick Bigelow charged the ball in for extra points. With the win, the Yreka Chargers Pee Wees move to 1-2 in league. Come out and see your Pee Wees play the Willows Coyotes this weekend.
Jr Midgets
No full report. Charger Jr. Midgets beat South Siskiyou for the Grudge Match Trophy.
Midgets
The Yreka Chargers Midgets traveled to Mt. Shasta Saturday to take on the South Siskiyou Knights. Yreka continues to gain momentum by knocking off the Knights 26-7. The Yreka Chargers Midgets found the end zone early and often, leading 26-0 with 6:00 min left in the second quarter.
A huge spark for the Chargers was a Michael Schuler 60-yard kickoff return. Yreka capitalized on the return by driving to the South Siskiyou Knights 19-yard-line, where Schuler found the end zone on an outside sweep. The Yreka Chargers Midgets defense forced a 3-and-out and Yreka quickly drove into Knight territory. A Kaden Culp to Schuler pass play struck pay dirt and Yreka was in command. Booming kickoffs by Andrew Andreas pinned the Knights deep all day. With South Siskiyou starting inside its own 20 yard line, the Yreka Chargers Midgets defense stopped the Knights cold. Casey Gusaas blocked a punt which was recovered in the end zone by John Crane making the score 20-0 Yreka.
Yreka capped its scoring on a Culp bootleg around right side. The Yreka Chargers Midgets defense held the Knights all day with stifling efforts by Tristain Howard and Gabe Durney. Howard and Durney played the corner positions to perfection. Culp had a jarring hit from safety, while Brett Todd along with Josh Johnson provided great efforts. Reno Pitts once again showed his prowess by anchoring the Offensive and Defensive lines. Casey Gusaas also snagged a one handed interception to thwart a late South Siskiyou threat. The Chargers move to 3-0 in league and take on Willows at home next Saturday.
