Jr. PeeWees
The Yreka Chargers Jr. PeeWees dominated the Willows Coyotes from the opening drive to the final whistle last Saturday, winning 5-2. The Coyotes had no answer to the Chargers’ offense. Yreka’s Lane Clark and Blake Shepard led the Chargers to scores on their first two possessions, making the score 2-0 early on. And what would a Y-Town
Jr. Pee Wee game be without the Clark-to-Vulyak Connection? On fourth and eleven from the Coyotes’ 20-yard-line, Clark hooked up with Vulyak for a twenty yard touchdown reception and a 3-0 lead. Yreka was able to add two more scores and that was more than enough elbow room for the Charger defense.
Virusur Lantz, Hayz Lantz, Charles Lopez and the “Y-Town Hitman”, Jeremy Persing, kept the Coyotes’ offense on their heels the whole game. Persing had several big hits in the game, which forced the Coyote coaching staff to have to know where number “24″ was at.
Coach Ron Quigley was pleased with his team’s performance, stating that “they played hard from beginning to end and made a statement with their physical play”.
PeeWees
Once again, everyone got in the game during the Charger’s win in Willows over the Coyotes on Saturday. The mighty Charger PeeWees took the lead early on, thanks to Tyler Hockaday with two touchdowns, one from Drew Robles and another from Cade Downey; who also had a fumble recovery. Chase McDonald almost had his first regular season touchdown, a 95-yarder, but had it called back due to a penalty. Always persistant, Scotty Wallace and Calvin Bruhns, were great assets on offense. Patrick Bigelow, coming in at fullback, made some nice runs during the game along with several great sticks on defense. Ryan Bridenstine and Stevie Albers, sharing QB duties, showed excellent leadership and received great blocking from the likes of Dylan O’Gorman, Blake Batchelor and Keith Lipke.
Proving why she’s made for defense, Haley “The Truck” Jones drove straight through the Willows offense showing them no mercy. Pedro Patterson brought the heat with some powerful hits to stop any Coyote yardage. Parker Jones had several great tackles throughout the day and Dominic Villagomes once again came out blasting. Gar Weed brought his A-game, smashing through the Coyotes offensive line. Cooper Bruhns, Keith Belcher and Marquis Pitts assisted in numerous tackles through the day. Wesley Hazelton, Scott Hopper and Tyler Hedin also had some nice hits on defense.
In the end, the Charger PeeWees shut out the Coyotes with a final score of 24-0.
Jr. Midgets
The Yreka Charger Jr. Midget team traveled to Willows last Saturday to take on the Willows Coyotes.
Casey “Goose” Gusaas started off the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown scamper around the Willows defensive ends. Jacob Maphet had two touchdowns for the day; a 30 yard run in the first half and a 40 yard receiving touchdown from Kaden Culp to start the third quarter. The Charger offense controlled the tempo of the game with several sustained drives.
The Charger defense, anchored by P.J. Christy and Quaid Blanchard, held the Coyotes to only two first downs and under 50 total yards for the day. The Chargers’ defensive unit has not allowed a touchdown this year.
“Fast Eddie” Robles had two PAT kicks and Kaden Culp kicked a 31 yard field goal. The final score was Chargers 25, Willows 0.
Head Coach Erik Kloth said, “I was very proud of our team this weekend. They played hard and kept up the intensity the entire game. This is probably the most well rounded and disciplined group I have had in my five years as coach and the biggest reason we are 4-0.”
Midgets
The Yreka Charger Midgets traveled to Willows Saturday to face a tough Willows Coyotes squad. The Charger Midgets fell behind early due to some costly turnovers and a blocked punt. The tough linebacking core proved too strong for Yreka’s offense. Yreka’s defense played hard down the stretch after being on the field most of the game.
Jonny Braeger & Trestin Kimbrell each had nice runs from the fullback position; however, the Charger offense was thwarted by the physical Coyotes for the rest of the game. Defensively, Yreka held their own in the second half. Rudy Vincent, James Bridenstine and Braeger led the charge. Arturo Villegas and Jason Lewis had some nice hits, and Brian Colla made a great tackle. The final score was: Willows 32 – Yreka 0.
The Chargers play their last home game of the season this Saturday at Miner Field against the Central Valley Falcons. All games have been scheduled to start two hours later. Times are at 10:45 a.m. for Mighty Mites, 12:00 for Jr. PeeWees, 2:00 for PeeWees, 4:00 for Jr. Midgets and 6:00 for Midgets.
