MOUNT SHASTA – The Siskiyou Colt baseball team fell to the Redding Colts, 8-3, in the first round of the league’s single elimination post season tournament on Saturday.

coffee-break-b.jpgThe Siskiyou squad took an early 1-0 lead over Redding in the bottom of the first inning. Trent Hough led off with a walk and stole second base. A two-out single by Ben Sampson plated Hough.

Redding converted an error, a single and a triple into two runs in the top of the second inning, to take the lead 2-1. In the top of the third inning, Redding took command of the contest, putting up four runs to extend its advantage to 6-1. A Redding run in the fourth made it 7-1.

Siskiyou got one run back in the bottom half of the fourth. Sampson led off with a walk, went to second on a steal, and moved to third base on a wild pitch. Sampson scored on an RBI ground out by Brian Accord, to make the score 7-2.

Colin Waterman led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a base hit. Waterman stole second base, and went to third on a balk.  Brian Accord’s second RBI ground out of the game scored Waterman, moving Siskiyou to within four runs at 7-3.

Redding picked up an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a one-out walk and a double to increase its lead to five runs, 8-3.

Trent Hough reached base on an error in the bottom half of the seventh inning, but that was the only base runner for Siskiyou, leaving Redding with an 8-3 victory.

Sampson was 1/2 for Siskiyou, with a run, a walk, an RBI, and two steals. Waterman went 2/3 with a double, a run scored, and a steal. Hough walked, scored, and stole a base. Brian Accord had two RBI. Dylan Morris walked, stole a base, and was hit by a pitch.

Despite fanning 13 batters, Waterman took the loss on the hill for Siskiyou, going seven innings, and giving up six earned runs, seven hits, and three walks.
