Brooks suffered damage to his neck and spinal cord, and initially was paralyzed from the neck down. Following surgery, Brooks regained some movement and feeling above the waist, with the possibility of further improvement.
Several efforts are underway to raise money to assist the Brooks family in coping with their medical expenses.
The Mount Shasta Athletic Booster Club has announced that the proceeds from their annual Fall Tailgate Party, traditionally held to celebrate and support the school’s student athletes at the kick off of the school sports season, will go to the Brooks family.
The Tailgate Party will be held at the Mt. Shasta High School football field on Wednesday, September 3 at 6:00 pm. Keith Cool and his crew from Mount Shasta Super Market will be preparing Tri-Tip dinner for $15.00 per plate.
The event organizers are in the process of locating special “big ticket” items for raffle, with tickets being sold at the event. To donate, contact Booster Club Secretary Annarae Baldi at 859-2022, or Kim Baldi at 859-1140. Already, Cross Petroleum has donated 200 gallons of heating oil, and Roseburg Lumber and Erickson Trucking have combined to donate a log truck full of firewood, with free delivery.
There will also be a silent auction of items donated by community businesses and supporters. To donate Items for the silent auction, contact Kelly Dickinson at Noah’s Ark Feed Store at 926-6562.
In addition, the Weed High School Cougar Power Booster Club has also joined in on the fund raising effort. Contact Sue Tavalero at 859-1345 for more information.
An account has also been set up at Scott Valley Bank for donations to help Corben and his family. Classmate Sammy Reed has been placing donation jars at various locations in the community, with a central collection point at The Coffee Brake, located at 302 West Lake St. in Mount Shasta.
