Cougars and Honkers split double dip

Game-one of a double header on Monday between the host Weed Cougars and the Tulelake Honkers went the Cougars way, 10-4.

Tulelake was first on the board with a run in the opening frame, but Weed grabbed the lead, 2-1, with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Tulelake answered with two runs in the top of the third to regain the advantage, 3-2.

A big six-run bottom half of the frame for Weed gave the Cougars an 8-3 lead, and that was all they need. The final score was Weed 10 – Tulelake 4.

Weed jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning of game-two, and may have hit cruise control just a bit early.

Tulelake came back with a couple of runs in the fourth inning, and four more in the fifth to tie the contest, 6-6.

Weed grabbed the lead back in the sixth inning, 8-6, with two runs.

However, the Honkers pasted five runs on the board in the seventh inning for their first win of the season, 11-8.
