What started out as a close contest, with Weed leading the Butte Valley Bulldogs 9-8 at the end of the first quarter, turned out to be a run away win for the Cougars on Tuesday night.

Weed put up 20 points versus the Bulldogs seven in the second stanza, to take a 29-15 advantage into the intermission.

Harley Williams had nine points in the first half, and Danny Formhals scored seven for the Cougars. The Bulldogs were led by Zack Hensley with 7 points.

Weed’s Xavia Martinez went off for 14 points in the third quarter, including four 3-balls, helping the Cougars to a 26-point outburst and a 55-25 lead heading into the final frame.

The fourth quarter went Weed’s way 15-11, for a final of 70-36.

Martinez led all scorers with 16 points. Williams put up 15, and Danny Formhals had 12 points for Weed.

Butte Valley was led by Hensley and Jacob Field with nine points each. Franz Lerch scored seven.

Both teams will be playing in the Mt. Shasta Holiday Tournament this weekend, starting on Thursday.
