WEED β The Weed varsity football team left no doubt, that Bulldogs are no match for Cougars–at least not when it comes to Weed Cougars and Los Molinos Bulldogs. The Cougars racked up 335 rushing yards and 469 total yards of offense on the way to a 41-0 rout of the Bulldogs on Friday night.
Weed picked up all the points it would really need on its second drive of the game. Micah White picked off a Bulldog pass, giving the Cougars possession on the Los Molinos 46-yard-line. Back-to-back runs by Robert Aquila moved the ball 18 yards to the Bulldog 28. Travis Andrews went three yards to the 25. A reverse by White went for 21 yards and put the ball on the Bulldog 4-yard-line. Andrews took it the rest of the way, to put the Cougars up 6-0, with 3:53 left in the first quarter. The PAT was blocked.
Weed utilized an onside kick to quickly regain possession of the ball, with Travis Greene making the recovery on the Los Molinos 48-yard-line. A couple of minutes later, it was Weed 12 β Los Molinos 0, when Cody Beam rushed nine yards on a quarterback keeper for the touchdown. The 2-point conversion attempt failed.
Weed appeared to be stalled at the Los Molinos 48-yard-line on its next possession, facing a fourth-and-seven. The Cougars lined up to punt, but Travis Andrews instead passed to Brandon Ede, who raced 48-yards to pay dirt, giving the Cougars an 18-0 advantage. Aquila rushed for the 2-point conversion, making it 20-0 with 9:36 left in the first half.
Los Molinos mounted a serious scoring threat on their next possession, gaining a first down at the Weed five-yard-line. However, the Cougar defense stiffened and actually pushed the Bulldogs back to the 8-yard-line, where Weed took over on downs.
The Cougars drove the length of the field in eight plays, including an 18-yard run by Aquila. Beam connected with White for a 42-yard TD pass play. Beam rushed for the 2-point conversion, and the Cougars led 28-0 with 1:07 left in the half.
The Cougars added two more TDs in the second half. The first was on a 10 yard run by Ede with three minutes gone in the second half, upping the Cougar lead to 34-0. Andrews added his second rushing TD of the night on a 30-dash with 9:20 left in the game. Roberto Sanchez added the PAT, to make the final 41-0.
Travis Andrews led the Cougar attack with 80 yards rushing and two TDs on 11 carries. Andrews was also 1/1 in the passing department for a 48-yard TD. βThe Beast,β as Weed Coach Erik Johnson calls Andrews, also had 10 solo tackles and four assists. Andrews was named player of the game by the coach.
