The D-Rays and the Cardinals came into Monday night’s game in Weed undefeated in the South Siskiyou Little League Majors round robin tournament. Both squads had already beaten the Mets and the Rangers.

With the post season championship on the line, D-Ray starting and winning pitcher Joey Spini was almost perfect through the first five innings before being relieved due to pitch count. Spini struck out 13 Cardinals, while allowing only one hit and one earned run.

The big offensive blow for the D-Rays came in the top of the sixth inning, when Seth Huffman went deep with two runners on base. The D-Rays were leading 3-2 before the blast, and went into the bottom half of the inning up 6-2. As it turned out, the insurance runs paid off.

The Cardinals cut the gap in half, when Zach Cardoza hammered a 2-run shot over center-field, making the score 6-4. But, the Cardinals were unable to score again, leaving the D-Rays with the post season crown.

The Cardinals, however, claimed the coveted regular season championship.
