Discovery High School & Yreka Adult School graduation

YREKA – Discovery High School and Yreka Adult School held their graduation on Friday in Miner Gym. Discovery had seven graduates, while Yreka Adult School graduated 12. Several scholarships were also awarded.
Becky Trevino received the Ford Jump Start scholarship, USI Scholarship, and the Don Stensas Memorial Scholarship given by the College of the Siskiyous. Winona Croy was presented the Yreka Elks Lodge Schuttpelz Scholarship, and the Wes Crippen Memorial Scholarship given by SiskiyouYouth.com. Sarah Young received a Ford Jump Start scholarship, and Alex Crippen was recognized as Discovery High School’s Most Improved Student with the Shasta Valley Rotary Scholarship.
Jean Monroe delivered an eloquent Commencement Address, asking the graduates to remember four words: truth, fidelity, integrity, and service. Monroe, a long term substitute teacher at Discovery, told the graduating students to incorporate the attributes that the words represent into their everyday lives.
Discovery principal Dennis Moore, who will be retiring, was congratulated and thanked by staff member Mark O’Conner. Moore is finishing more than a 30 year career with the Yreka Union High School District, with his final year spent at Discovery. Randy Baker will take over as principal at Discovery.
