COS v Yuba (16) front

y-ad-1-click.jpgWEED – The College of the Siskiyou Eagles allowed Yuba just 74 yards rushing, while racking up 51 points, in a dominating win over the Forty-Niners on Saturday.

It took the Eagles five plays and 2:30 to cover 62 yards on the game’s opening drive, with the touchdown coming on a throwback from wide receiver Zach Young to quarterback Josh Hudson.

Less than three minutes later, Hudson hit Alex Coleman for a nine yard TD strike. With Aaron Sinnott’s PAT, it was 13-0.

Yuba’s best chance to get in the game came about five minutes into the second quarter, after they recovered a COS fumble at the Eagle 31-yard-line. The threat was thwarted, however, when Eagle Tyson Stephens picked off a pass in the end zone.

After the interception and touchback, COS started its next drive at the 20-yard-line. The Eagles moved 80 yards to pay dirt in seven plays, culminating with an 11-yard pass from Hudson to Young for the TD. The PAT was good, and the Eagles stretched their lead to 20-0, with 6:52 left in the first half.

COS made it 27-0 on its next drive via a 75-yard pass play, Hudson to Coleman. The score remained the same going into intermission.

Hudson connected with Isaac Silafau for an 82-yard touchdown on the Eagles’ first possession of the second half, upping their advantage to 34-0, with the Sinnott PAT.

With a minute left in the third quarter, Jarvis Carraway punched it in from the 1-yard-line, completing an 80-yard Eagle drive. Going into the final frame, COS led 41-0.

Sinnott tacked on a 25-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter, to make the score Eagles 44 – Forty-Niners 0.

On a fourth-and-three from the Yuba 13-yard-line, Carraway invented daylight on a play that looked like it was going nowhere, and ended up in the end zone. Sinnott tacked on the PAT to cap the Eagle scoring, and make it 51-0.

Yuba passed for an “at least we didn’t get shutout, but who really cares TD” with about a minute left in the game, to make the final score 51-7.

After congratulating his team on a job well done, COS Coach Eric Young told the Eagles, “The key to this thing starts in 24 hours—conference play. You want the ring? It’s time to go.”

The Eagles came into the game ranked 11th in Northern California. With the win their record stands at 4-2. COS will travel to Quincy on Saturday, October 17 to open Mid-Empire Conference play against Feather River (3-3). Feather River beat Shasta on Saturday, 34-33, in double overtime.
