cos-feather-river-zach-mckee-text-sized.jpgWEED – The College of the Siskiyous Eagles hosted a three game series on Friday and Saturday, against Golden Valley Conference leader Feather River, dropping all three games.

In the first game, on Friday, both teams put up a run in the first inning, but Feather River exploded for seven runs in the second inning to take the lead 8-1. The score was 10-3, at the end of three innings. Feather River added single runs in the fifth and seventh innings. COS scored a run in the eighth to make the final 12-4. Feather River pounded out 22 hits, and COS had eight.

Kyle Paul went 2-3, with a run and three RBI. Andrew Swenson was 2-4, with a run and an RBI. David Deutschman went 1-4 with a run, and Justin Anderson was 2-4. The Eagles used four pitchers in the game, with Jerris Van Hess getting the start and the loss (2IP, 11H, 8ER, K).

The Eagles put up the first run of the second game, in the bottom of the first, but Feather River responded with a pair in the top of the second inning, to lead 2-1 after two complete innings. Both teams added a run in the sixth inning, to make it 3-2. The Eagles came back to tie the game in the bottom of the eight inning.

Anderson led off the eighth for COS, with a single, and was replaced on the base paths by Scott Jarvis. Zach McKee fanned. Then, Deutschman singled, and Jarvis went to second. Jarvis scored on a base hit by Eric Savage to tie the game 3-3, and Deutschman moved to second base. Paul flew out to first base. Deutschman stole third. Swenson was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but Bobby Mapes grounded out to short, to end the inning.

Feather River scored a run in the top of the ninth to regain the lead 4-3. COS had runners on first and second after Robbi Perron singled, and McKee was hit by a pitch, with two out. Deutschman hit a shot to left field, but Feather River had him played relatively short and towards the line, and made the play to end the game.

Deutschman went 3-5, with two runs. Paul was 1-4, with two RBI, and Savage went 1-3 with an RBI. David Brauhn started, went eight innings, and left the game with the score tied 3-3 (3ER, 5H, 3BB, 3K). Aaron Jorgensen pitched the ninth and was saddled with the loss (ER, 2H, 2BB, K).

Game three was scoreless through the first three innings, with Feather River breaking the ice with three runs in the fourth inning. Feather River tacked on three more runs in the top of the ninth, for the 6-0 shutout. Paul had the only hit for the Eagles, going 1-3.

The Eagles are now 2-8 in the GVC (8-15), and will play next at Butte College on Friday, March 28. They will host Butte on Saturday, March, 29.
