The College of the Siskiyous Eagles flattened the Feather River College Golden Eagles 59-12 on Saturday at Herschel Meredith Stadium. Siskiyous scored on its opening drive. FRC returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown, but not another peep would be heard from the Gilded Eagles until a meaningless TD in the final minute. In between, COS put up 52 unanswered points.
With the win, the Eagles (8-2) will be the three-seed in the NorCal Championship playoffs. Their first round opponent is #2 San Mateo (9-1), the Bay-6 Conference champion. The NorCal champ will face the south region champion for the state title.
After a 54-yard kickoff return by Makhal Gaston, Siskiyous began its first drive at the FRC 46. Four plays later, Gage Ferguson passed to 272-pound fullback Beniah Greene for a 12-yard TD. “Mr. Automatic,” Kyle Sentkowski added the extra point, for a 7-0 lead at 13:28.
Dakarai Hamilton returned the ensuing kickoff 101 yards for an FRC touchdown. The PAT was blocked by Eagle Justin Kaelin, leaving COS on top 7-6, with 13:12 left in the opening quarter.
A less than spectacular 14-yard punt by FRC, was returned 36 yards by Chance Nelson for a TD, with 6:42 to go in the quarter. Add in Sentkowski’s PAT, for a 14-6 Eagle advantage.
An interception by Dominque Copeland gave the Eagles the ball on the FRC 30-yard-line. Drew Kannely-Robles capped the short drive with a 12-yard jaunt. Sentkowski’s kick was good, making the score 21-6 at 4:20 of the first.
Robles scored his second TD of the first quarter on a 9-yard run with 56 seconds remaining. Sentkowski…good, 28-6.
A little over three minutes into the second stanza, Sentkowski made it 31-6 on a 35-yard field goal.
With 2:02 to go in the first half, Samuel Jackson went 15 yards to pay dirt. Sentkowski split the uprights, making it 38-6 for the Eagles.
A fumble recovery by Daniel Hardy at the FRC 24 set up the Eagles’ next tally. Ferguson tossed to Jackson for a 22-yard TD, at the 12:16 mark of the third quarter. Sentkowski’s kick was true, and Siskyous had a 45-6 lead.
Greene, a former Weed Cougar, grabbed a 7-yard TD pass from Jordan Castro, with 5:07 left in the third. No need to tell you what happened on the PAT, 52-6.
The Eagles final TD of the game came on a 15-yard rush by Alex Light with 5:57 to play in the game. The extra point? Good, of course, 59-6.
Feather River broke out the makeup bag for a little cosmetic work with 47 ticks left on the clock, scoring via a 14-yard pass from Alexis Archie to Torin Owolabi. FRC attempted a 2-point conversion, but Archie was hammered by Eagle Darian Mathes, and the pass found nothing but ground. Mathes is also a former Weed Cougar.
The FRC kickoff was a touch back, and the Eagles simply took a knee a couple of times to run out the clock for a 59-12 victory.
