Etna v Weed MM Tourney (12) front

svpt-small.jpgFORT JONES – The Etna Lions (1-0) opened their 2010 season with an 11-1 blow out of the Weed Cougars (1-3) on Thursday at the Marble Mountain Tournament. The tournament host Lions ended the game via the mercy rule, with an 8-run sixth inning.

Etna put a pair of runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Hank Johnson led off with a walk, and swiped second. H. Johnson scored when Colby Rimmer reached on an error. With one down, Clint Eastlick singled, moving Rimmer to third. Clint Eastlick went to second on the throw to third. Robbie Munson picked up an RBI on a ground out that scored Rimmer.

The Lions struck again in the bottom of the third inning. Josh Jordan was hit by a pitch to lead off. Jordan stole second. Clint Eastlick was hit by a pitch. A single by Munson loaded the bases. Austin Hasemeyer reached on a fielder’s choice, but Jordan was forced out at the plate. Caleb Eastlick grounded out to first, scoring brother Clint and giving Etna a 3-0 lead.

Weed scored its only run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jeremiah Herrin reached on an error to lead off. Herrin moved to third base, on an errant pick off attempt. Herrin scored, when Travis Greene reached on an error, making it 3-1.

The wheels came off for Weed in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Etna put up eight runs. H. Johnson led off with a walk and stole second. Rimmer reached on an error, moving H. Johnson to third base. With two outs, Munson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Will Johnson reached on an error, that scored H. Johnson and Rimmer. Munson went to third on the throw home, and W. Johnson moved to second base. Caleb Eastlick walked, loading the bags.

Chase Reynolds walked forcing home Munson. Ricky Reynolds walked, and W. Johnson strolled home. H. Johnson reached on an error, bringing home Caleb Eastlick. Rimmer found his way to first on an error, and C. Reynolds trotted home. A walk to Ryan Hicks plated R. Reynolds. H. Johnson came home, when Clint Eastlick reached on an error, ending the game, 11-1.

Robbie Munson led Etna at the plate, going 2/3, with an RBI and a run. Hank Johnson was 1/3, with two walks, three runs, and three swipes. Clint Eastlick went 1/4, with a run. Colby Rimmer scored twice and had a steal.

Clint Eastlick recorded the win for the Lions (6 IP, R, 4 H, 4 BB, 11 K, HB)

Jeremiah Herrin was 1/3 for Weed, scored a run, and stole a base. Luke Hart, Joel Shroeder, and Roberto Sanchez all went 1/2, and each had a walk.

Travis Andrew took the loss for Weed (5 2/3 IP, 11 R, 5 H, 8 BB, 3 K, 4 HB)

Etna is scheduled to take on Burney (0-0) on Friday at the Marble Mountain tournament at 2:00 pm in Etna, weather permitting.

Weed is scheduled to play Central Valley (4-2) at 4:00 pm, at the marble Mountain Tournament, in Fort Jones.
