Now they have just one challenger left.

John Holst scored the only goal Mt. Shasta really needed 12 minutes into the match off a pass from David Castaneda. With nine minutes left in the first half, Allison Titus blasted a shot past the Weed keeper for some insurance, making it 2-0 for the Bears. Andrew Campbell had the assist.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, Nikki Roda had a sweet assist to Sam Wooten for the Bears third goal. (more…)

Jr. PeeWees
The Yreka Chargers Jr. PeeWees dominated the Willows Coyotes from the opening drive to the final whistle last Saturday, winning 5-2. The Coyotes had no answer to the Chargers’ offense. Yreka’s Lane Clark and Blake Shepard led the Chargers to scores on their first two possessions, making the score 2-0 early on. And what would a Y-Town Jr. Pee Wee game be without the Clark-to-Vulyak Connection? On fourth and eleven from the Coyotes’ 20-yard-line, Clark hooked up with Vulyak for a twenty yard touchdown reception and a 3-0 lead. Yreka was able to add two more scores and that was more than enough elbow room for the Charger defense.

Virusur Lantz, Hayz Lantz, Charles Lopez and the “Y-Town Hitman”, Jeremy Persing, kept the Coyotes’ offense on their heels the whole game. Persing had several big hits in the game, which forced the Coyote coaching staff to have to know where number “24″ was at. (more…)

The Junior/Sophomore team scored on the first possession of the game, and led at halftime 22-0. The J/S squad added another TD and 2-point conversion in the middle of the third quarter to lead 30-0.

On the ensuing kick off, senior Lori Garcia sprinted 65 yards for the Senior/Frosh team’s first score. Garcia’s return was the second longest in Weed Powder Puff history. The 2-point conversion failed. (more…)

Although the end result wasn’t bad for the Lions, who have had difficulty all season, the game started poorly. Butte Valley scored five minutes into the contest and again at the 10-minute mark, taking a 2-0 lead. Both goals were scored by Jose Luis Gonzalez.

The Lions, however, counter attacked just as quickly. Leading goal scorer Erik Anaya broke into the clear with a pass from Juan Castaneda and found the back of the Bulldog net, making it 2-1 at 13 minutes. Anaya and Castaneda hooked up again three minutes later. This time it was Castaneda with the goal and Anaya with the assist. (more…)

COTTONWOOD – Yreka Miner Kevin Jorgenson finished third at the West Valley Coed Invitational, last Friday. Jorgenson’s time was 16:54.79 for the three mile varsity men’s cross country course, just over 11 seconds behind winner Daniel Johnson of University Prep (16:43.73). Nick Read of Colfax was second at 16:50.13. Etna’s best finisher was Javier Hansen in fifty-second at 20:03.99.

The top local finisher in the women’s varsity three-mile was Etna Lady Lion Jilinda Franklin in twenty-first place (21:39.54). Lady Miner Carrie Turner was right behind Franklin with a time of 21:44.76. (more…)
