y-ad-1-click.jpgEtna High School’s Paige Finley and Mt. Shasta High School’s Kayla Spini have been named to the ESPN RISE, Cal-Hi Small Schools All-State Softball Team. The pair were among only 30 players selected for the honor. Finley was picked as a pitcher. Spini was selected as an all-purpose player despite being a top-notch pitcher. Spini was the only sophomore selected to the small schools team.

Finley led her Etna Lion’s team to back-to-back NSCIF D-V championships her junior and senior year. She led the North Section in wins (28-7), and was second in strikeouts (367) in the 2010 season. Finley is headed to Concordia in Irvine, where she will play for the Lady Eagles next spring.

Spini led her Lady Bears team to back-to-back Shasta Cascade League championships as a freshman and sophomore. Her freshman year, Mt. Shasta was the NSCIF D-IV runner up. Spini was second in the section in wins (26-6), and third in strikeouts (361) in the 2010 season . Spini hit .514, eighth in the section.

Also making the team from the Shasta Cascade League was Lauren Vestal, a junior from Fall River High School. Vestal, who plays catcher and outfield, was selected as an outfielder. Vestal hit .557 in the 2010 season for the Lady Bulldogs, third best in the North Section.
