heat-u-14-v-phoenix-front-450.jpgYREKA – The Siskiyou Heat U-14 ASA softball team took down the visiting Phoenix Lady Pirates in both games of a twin bill on Saturday, 12-2 and 10-6.

The Heat established its dominance in the bottom of the first inning of game-one, with an eight-run out burst. Lacie Landrum, Emilie Wagy, Katie Brummett, Baylee Harris, Morgan Deany, and Riva Martin all scored, with lead-off hitter Jena Turner crossing the plate twice in the inning.

Phoenix responded with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning, but that would be the extent of their counter attack. The Heat added four runs in the fourth inning to extend its lead to 12-2. The Heat shut down the Pirates in the top of the fifth inning, leading to a 10-run mercy rule win.

Landrum led the Heat at the plate in game-one, going 3/3 and scoring two runs. Turner was 2/3, scored two runs, and hit a double. Wagy and Brummett both had two walks and scored a pair of runs, while going 1/2. Martin picked up the win in the circle.

yac-300-b.jpgThe Heat quickly took control again in game-two, scoring six runs in the first inning for a 6-0 lead.  Going into the top of the sixth inning, the Heat led 9-2.

The Lady Prates, however, weren’t quite ready to abandon ship, as they put up four runs to cut the lead to 9-6. Heat relief pitcher Krystal Palmer entered the circle in the sixth to stop the Pirate rally.

The Heat added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 10-6, and then held the Pirates scoreless in the seventh inning to complete the victory.

The Heat’s Katie Brummett wore out home plate, crossing it three times, while going 3/3 with a double and a walk. Jena Turner was 3/4 and scored a run.

Jeni Cheffey was the starting pitcher and notched the win for the Heat, with Palmer picking up the save.
