hur-front.JPGYREKA – The Siskiyou Heat U-12 ASA softball team toasted the Upper Rogue Rebels in double-header action on Saturday. The Heat won game-one, 10-5, and game-two 12-4.

The Heat exploded for eight runs in the second inning of game-one to take a commanding lead. With one out, Alicia Mandt took a walk. Mandt then stole second and third base, and scored on a wild pitch, giving the Heat a 1-0 lead. Michaella Ensele also walked, stole second, and scored on a single by Courtney Huston. Huston also scored in the inning, as well as Chantell Frazier, Jena Turner, Lacie Landrum, Emilie Wagy, and Katie Brummett.

The Rebels responded with a run in the top of the third inning, and four runs in the fourth inning, to make it 8-5. However, scores by Frazier and Landrum in the bottom of the fourth inning increased the Heat’s advantage to 10-5, which wound up also being the final score.

siskiyou-golden-fair-08-a.jpgLandrum led the Heat offensively, scoring two runs, swiping three bases, taking a couple of walks, and going 1-1. Turner went 1-2, with a run scored, a walk, and four steals. Huston picked up an RBI, scored a run, and went 1-2. Brummett was 1-2, with a run, a walk, and a steal. Riva Martin notched a complete game win (5R, H, 3BB, 6K). Martin also went 1-1 at the plate, took a walk, and was hit by a pitch.

The Heat took on the visitor’s role for the second game. Turner led off the game with a single, stole second, stole third base, and scored on a passed ball. Landrum followed with a hit, and came around to score. Wagy and Baylee Harris also scored in the first inning to give the Heat a 4-0 lead.

Starting pitcher Leah MacAdams set the Rebels down in order in the bottom half of the first inning, including two Ks. The Heat ran into some defensive difficulties in the bottom of the second inning, as the Rebels put three runs on the board to temporarily tighten the game. Neither team scored in the third inning. The Heat, however, served notice that while they may have been playing the visitors role, it was their house, as they slapped eight runs on the board for the second time in the day.

MacAdams led off with a single, stole second, and moved to third base on a passed ball. Mandt walked and continued towards second drawing a throw by the Rebels. MacAdams stole home on the play. Ensele, Laura Ward, Huston, Turner, Landrum, Wagy, and Brummett accounted for the other runs in the inning.

Starting Heat pitcher MacAdams returned to pitch the fifth inning. After an error and a walk led to a Rebel run, MacAdams blew away the last two Rebel batters, recording two strikeouts to end the game, with the Heat winning 12-4.

Brummett led the Heat offense in game-two, going 2-3, driving in a pair of runs, scoring a run, and swiping a couple of bases. Landrum also went 2-3, as well as scoring two runs, and stealing a base. Wagy and Turner each scored two runs. Huston was 1-1, with a walk, and a run. Ward went 1-2 and scored. Martin stole two bases. MacAdams gave up no hits in recording the win (2.2 IP, 4R, 6BB, 5K). Martin went 2.1 innings and gave up no runs in relief (H, 2BB, 5K).
