Heat U-14s come from behind to win consolation bracket at Western World Series

After losing a pair of games on Saturday, the Siskiyou Heat U-14s battled their way through the Consolation bracket at the Western World Series in Newburg, Ore. on Sunday to bring home the consolation prize.
The Heat were down 5-3 against Vancouver, Washington Faith (different than the Faith team they played earlier in the tourney) going into the final inning, but scored three runs to win, 6-5. Audali Avila had the game-winning RBI, Amber Andrighetto scored the winning run. Lacie Landrum scored the tying run. Jeni Cheffey, who came on in relief for starting pitcher Riva Martin, notched the win.

The Heat started their march through the bracket with a thumping of the Staton Sparks, 9-0, on Sunday morning. The Heat rapped out 11 hits, and only allowed one Sparks base-runner to advance as far as third base.
Among the highlights was a “great catch” in deep center field, and throw to third base for a double play by Jasmin Bingham, according to Coach Rick Landrum.

The Heat then nipped the Albany X-plosion, 6-5, with 2nd baseman Kendall Moser making a game ending over the shoulder catch.

The Siskiyou Heat U-14s continued their winning ways with a 10-5 victory over the Vancouver, Washington Faith in day-2 of the NAFA Western World Series in Newburg, Ore.
The Heat found themselves down 4-0 after the first inning, with the first four Faith batters “crushing the ball,” according to Heat Coach Rick Landrum. However, starting and winning pitcher Jeni Cheffey settled in for the remainder of the game and only allowed two more hits.
The Heat drew even with four runs in the second inning, and took the lead with five runs in the fourth inning, going on to win 10-5.
With the win, the Heat have a bye in the championship bracket, and will play Saturday morning at 8:00 am against a team TBD.

The Siskiyou Heat U-14 ASA softball team muffled the Albany X-Plosion, 5-2, Thursday afternoon in Newburg, Ore. Starting Heat pitcher Riva Martin was dominate in the circle, allowing three hits, no earned runs, and fanning six batters. Albany’s only runs came on an error in the sixth inning.
There are 24 teams competing in the U-14 2010 NAFA Western World Series. The Heat will play again Friday morning at 9:45 am.
