coffee-break-b.jpgCOTTONWOOD – Yreka’s Kevin Jorgensen smoked the competition in the 800m race at the North Section CIF championships on Friday at West Valley High School. Jorgensen held a slight lead after the first lap, but pulled a way midway through the second lap, winning in a time of 1:57.04. Red Bluff’s Devin Shoop was second (2:00.80). Jorgensen celebrated with a fist pump upon crossing the finish line, and a huge hug with coach Pam Borg after the medals presentation.

“I was nervous. I thought someone was right behind me. It most have been my shoe laces making noise,” said Jorgensen after being told about his large margin of victory.

Etna’s Emily Loogman and Taylor Lambert from West Valley entered the 300m Hurdles competition as co-favorite. Lambert had the top time in the event for most of the season, but Loogman held the top time early in the season and again part way through. Both runners turned in their best time of the season at the championships, with Lambert prevailing in 46.61. Loogman was second in 47.34. Loogman finished fourth in the 100m Hurdles, turning in a personal best of 16.55. Amanda Menschel of Wheatland won the event (15.84).

Lady Miner Carrie Scott, who received an at large bid to the championships, finished third in the Shot Put at 34-02.50. Shasta’s Jazmin Porter was the winner (39-10.75).
