mt-shasta-v-trinity-softball-front.jpgMOUNT SHASTA – The Mt. Shasta Lady Bears softball team swept the Trinity Wolves in a double-header on Friday, winning 14-0 and 8-2. Combined with Fall River splitting a twin bill with Burney, the Lady Bears took sole possession of first place in the Shasta Cascade League, with a record of 9-1 (20-6). Fall River is in second at 8-2 (19-7), and Etna is in third place at 7-3 (22-7).

The Lady Bears can guarantee themselves at least a share of the SCL crown with a sweep of Fall River at home on Tuesday, April 28. Mt. Shasta and Fall River control their own destiny. If Fall River wins its last four games they would win the league. Etna must win its bookstore-text-click-april.jpgremaining four games, and hope for at least one loss by Fall River and two losses by Mt. Shasta in order to win the SCL title.

In game-one against Trinity, the Lady Bears plated their first seven batters, on the way to an 8-0 lead at the end of the first inning. Kayla Emerson led off with a walk. Makenzie Hanna bunted for a base hit moving Emerson to second. Cynthia Laiacona singled to load the bags. Tori Weatherford reached on an error by the Trinity center fielder, scoring Emerson and Hanna. Laiacona went to third on the play.
