cos-v-chabot-basketball-6-front.jpgWEED – The Chabot Lady Gladiators paid a visit to COS on Saturday, and used a long range attack to snag an 85-77 win. While the Lady Eagles had little problem scoring, they were unable to shut down Chabot’s Rose Thompson who went off with 34 points, mostly via the 3-ball.

The Gladiators opened the game with a 3-pointer and tallied a total of eight in the first half. With about 10:00 gone in the half, Chabot held a 12-point advantage 27-15.

Then, Lady Eagle Leah Swain hit a bucket to make it 27-17 and start a 13-1 run. Swain added another hoop. Jennifer Whipple nailed a 3-ball and picked up three the hard way. Kelly Stephens dialed long distance, and

Amber Franko had a put-back to give COS the lead30-28.

The Gladiators regained the lead on a 3-pointer. But with the score 38-38, Jazmin McDaniel hit a pair from the charity stripe, putting COS up 40-38. Two free throws by Whipple made it 42-38, and COS went into the half leading 42-40.

Crissy Watts dropped a bomb to open the second half, giving the Lady Eagles a 45-40 advantage. Chabot tied the game at 45-45, but Stephanie Batchelder notched a 3-pointer to give COS the lead back, 48-45.

COS maintained a lead until Chabot hit a 3-point shot to go up 58-57, with 12:30 left to play in the game. The Gladiators then built a 7-point lead 65-58. COS, however, responded by outscoring Chabot 11-4 over the next 6:30 to tie the contest at 69-69.

Unfortunately for the Lady Eagles that would be their last run, as the Gladiators went on to win 85-77, doubling up COS 16-8 in the last 6:00.

Jennifer Whipple led the Lady Eagles with 27 points. Leah Swain had 13 points. Crissy Watts added 11, and Amber Franko had 10 points.

The Lady Eagles won their home opener on Friday night, beating Modesto 82-63. COS is 2-3 so far this season and hosts Yuba on Wednesday, November 26 at 3:00 pm.
