cos-v-cosumnes-9-front.jpgWEED – The Cosumnes River College Lady Hawks were no match for the COS Lady Eagles volleyball squad on Tuesday. COS quickly dispatched the Hawks, 3-0.

With Samantha Stoneback serving, COS scored the first three points of game-one, including an ace by Stoneback. The Hawks came back to narrow the gap to 4-3, but COS maintained a 1-4 point lead throughout the game, winning 25-20.

In game-two COS leapt to a 5-1 lead. With the score 7-4 and the Lady Hawks serving, Amber Franko won back the serve with a kill, making it 8-4. A kill by Laura McMahon made it 9-4. The Hawks failed to return a serve, making it 10-4. A combo block by L. McMahon and Heather Wicks upped the lead to 11-4. An ace by Franko put COS up 12-4. The match was never close from that point on, with the Lady Eagles winning 25-15.

y-ad-1.jpgGame-three was close early, but the Lady Eagles eventually built a seven point lead, 23-16, when Katelyn Prigmore nailed an ace. The Hawks, however, rallied back with a 5-0 run to make it 23-21, and would close to within a single point at 24-23. Franko registered the final kill of the game to seal the 25-23 game win, and 3-0 match victory.

Unofficially, Laura McMahon led the Eagle attack with nine kills, and two blocks. Amber Franco had five kills, an ace, and a block. Katie Zauner recorded four kills, three blocks and an ace. Ashley Spalding and Brie Melton each had a pair of aces.

COS will play next at the Delta Classic this Friday and Saturday. The next home matches are Saturday, September 20, when the Lady Eagles will play American River and Galivan at the COS Classic.
