WEED – The top-seeded College of the Siskiyous Lady Eagles pushed their record to 43-3 with a sweep of the Yuba 49ers (16) in the first round of the North Region playoffs. COS pitcher Jackie Imhof tossed a no-hitter to shut out the 49ers, 5-0, in game-one. The Lady Eagles won 11-1 in game two of the best of three series.

The Lady Eagles scored one run in the first inning of game-one. As it turned out, that was the only run they would need. Shawna Mayo led off with a walk, and moved to second base on a hit by Ali Paz. Mayo scored when Katie Zauner reached on an error.

In the second inning, Nikki Kemper led off and reached on an error by the Yuba third baseman, went to second on error by the shortstop, and advanced to third when Yuba’s defense went to sleep. Kemper scored when Mayo reached on an error. Mayo went to second on a passed ball, and took third on a fly ball out to left field by Brittnee McNeely. After Paz walked, Zauner drove in McNeeley on a 6-4 fielder’s choice, giving COS a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Eagles upped their advantage to 4-0 in the fourth inning, when Kemper drove in Crissy Watts with a double. Watts had taken a two-out walk.

Cheyanna Ohlrich led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a single. Ohlrich swiped second base, and scored on a Watts double, making the final score 5-0.

Watts led the Eagle attack, going 1/2 with a run, an RBI, a double, and a walk. Kemper scored a run, drove in a run, and doubled. Zauner was 1/3 with an RBI. Ohlrich went 1/3 with a run scored. Mayo took a walk and scored two runs. Jackie Imhof started and recorded the no-hit shutout (7 IP, 0 H, BB, 8 K).

Yuba scored its only run of the series in the first inning of game-two, on an error and two hits.

COS promptly tied it in the bottom half of the inning. Catherine Schorn led off with a single, and advanced to second base on a base hit by McNeely. A one-out single from Zauner loaded the bases. Schorn scored on a passed ball to tie the contest

The Lady Eagles took the lead, 3-1, in the second inning. Angelina Cruz led off and reached on an error. A Watts triple plated Cruz. Watts scored on a passed ball.

Zauner opened the bottom of the third inning with a base hit. Ohlrich followed with a single. Then, Carlene Morgan hit a no-doubter over the left field fence for three RBI.

With one out, Watts singled. A double by Courtney Wooden moved Watts to third base. With two down, McNeely walked to load the bases. Watts scored on a passed ball, and Wooden crossed the plate when Zauner reached on an error. At the end of three innings, COS led 8-1.

The Lady Eagles tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning. With one out, Cruz doubled, and moved to third base on a single by Watts. Wooden walked to load the bases. Schorn drove in Cruz with a base hit. A single by Amanda Bates scored Watts and Wooden to make the final 11-1.

Watts led the Eagles at the plate, scoring three runs, driving in a run, ripping a triple, and going 3/3. Schorn was 2/4 with a run and an RBI. Zauner went 2/4 and scored a run. Wooden scored a pair of runs, hit a double, and took a walk. Morgan went yard and drove in three runs. Cruz was 1/3 with a run scored and a double. Bates was 1/1 with two RBI.

Jordyn Brown started in the circle and picked up the win (4 IP, 3 H, 3 K). Brie Melton pitched a 1-2-3 fifth inning to finish off the game.

The Lady Eagles will host round-two games on Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10 against an opponent yet to be determined.
